Steven Tyler -Muscle Shoals Brown Sugar cover

"Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steven Tyler cut a cover of 1971 Rolling Stones hit "Brown Sugar" during his FAME Studios sessions this spring.

Tyler described the resulting track as ""Sick as f---. So good." Later in the interview, Tyler talked more about his version of "Brown Sugar": "We got all the players from way back then, the horn sections, got girls to sing it."

Looking forward to hearing this cover when it emerges.
Never a huge fan, but reading Tyler's description, he's got my attention ..

It will probably sound something like Chuck Leavell's dreadful new Stones' covers (Honky Tonk Woman, Tumbling Dice), but with Steven Tyler slobbering away on vocals.
In other words, not very promising.

I wouldn't be so sure of that Hairball, he might surprise you, Steve Tyler is in another league to Mick vocally, although he does tend to over do things at times which can be hard on the ears. Looking forward to hearing Stevens take on Brown Sugar.
Putting Tyler in the same bracket as Chuck is a strange comparison, i can't think of two more opposite people.

It's gonna sound, vocally, the way Little Richard's take on "Brown Sugar" sounded - roughly.

For a leading anti-Jagger as you famously are here, I am sure you are thrilled to hear finally a 'Keith Richards song' delivered by some decent vocalist. Let's hope Jagger get the hint and finally understands to retire and give people like Steven Tyler his duty as a frontman of Keith Richards's band. One can only imagine how great the things would be then. Let's hope Tyler, for example, re-sings all the old Stones albums to make those sound as they should be as true Keith Richards song manifestations, and all of us would be free of hearing that whiny and thin Jagger voice never again.

And before anyone interested in facts (no one anymore, ask Trump) tells us that "Brown Sugar" is actually a Jagger song, let me remind that according to a gospel Keithette ideology if any Stones song has any greatness in it, that's thanks to Keith Richards. So if Keef farts loud enough in the studio that most probably would make the track great. And in "Brown Sugar" he even played the guitar parts. So that's HIS SONG and that's why it is SO GREAT! To think further that Keithette dream if the Stones would only have a proper singer, how mighty they might have been... Since none of the proper Stones is any technically speaking big musician, let us imagine that we would replace all of them them with actually competent and skilfull musicians and singers (I guess anyone who's been around in some musician circles, knows that that there are much better players around here and there than those cats are). What would happen to classic Stones albums if we would re-cut them? Most likely all Jagger, Richards, Wyman, Watts, Wood and Brian Jones parts would be erased. Most likely only that would remain as they were would be some Nicky Hopkins and Mick Taylor parts....grinning smiley

I guess anyone knows the moral I imply here...

Not looking forward to this jive. Aerosmith the poor man's Stones. I admit that they have the work ethic and continuity. They worked hard and smart so are worth millions and deserve it.

But take their first hit "Train Kept a Rolling", total shiiite compared to what the Yardbirds did with that Chicago blues material. They tried to rip off the Yardbirds and FAILED!

The lyrics for sure at 100%. Micks first child was with Marsha Hunt. Which says it all. You are English and journey 6,000 miles away to California and you have a child with your black background singer. Very revolutionary for back then.

Yes they had some pretty good tunes in the '70's - my best friend at the time was a diehard and I was forced to listen more than necessary.
I like a few from their first few albums, and occasionally will listen via youtube, but mostly for nostalgia and remembering my boneheaded friend.
Now to think Steven Tyler will be desecrating sacred ground doesn't sit right...look how bad they screwed up the Beatles' Come Together - they ruined it.

Was never really an Aerosmith fan, like most, I liked some of their early hits.

Became a big Steven Tyler fan though when I was working a second job doing concert security at Seattle Coliseum in the early nineties and was assigned to their dressing room door. Dude couldn't have been cooler to me.
Joked all afternoon long (mostly involving the scantily clad mannequins the promoters had lined the hall with) with me, and ended up inviting me in for food, smoke, and to point out the freakish nature of the porn movie playing in the room ("Dude.. you've got to see this!") cool smiley. It was amazing to watch and interact with them all afternoon, then watch them transform from basically regular guys to Rock Stars as they hit the stage, knocking over mannequins on their way.
I'm sure the seventies would have been a much more epic backstage glimpse into their madness, but there was still plenty going on to look back on (especially after-show) and chuckle about in the early nineties.winking smiley

Don’t worry Doxa,no one takes it seriously. The kid has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about.I love Aerosmith and I’ve seen them live dozens of times over the years and they killed it every time.
But anyone who knows squat about them knows Stevens voice only works with Aerosmith songs, covers they pick that suit them or songs written especially for the band.
Saying Tyler is a better singer than Jagger shows a complete lack of understanding of either artist.
The little Keithettes mom needs to sit him down for a talk”honey,Mr Richards has known Mr Jagger since they were children.just because he’s upset at Mr Jagger doesn’t mean you have to be o.k.?” You dont have to take a side because neither of them know who you are,you get that, right?now go outside and play.

Great story. I actually always assumed Steven to be a great guy.
Great singer in a great band. I just can't stand Joey Kramer.

Steven Tyler is the cheezy, imitation version of a Mick Jagger... (for themost part he always was). His act and his whole persona has been 'tired' for some time.

what the deuce? as far as I know aerosmith take on "train kept a rollin' wasn't even a hit anywhere. "dream on" was a minor hit before "train kept a rollin" was even recorded. then the band didn't have any hits after "dream on" until "sweet emotion" which was the bands big break
