What i found amusing reading MisterDDD and Hairballs comments is that you are both right. It's just what side of the fence you sit on, i do happen to think it was very cheap to see the Stones this time round, but having said that if you want to get up close and personal it's going to cost more than most would like, but that's the price you pay to see the best live act in the world right now.
I look at it this way, with the Stones we get four men each taking a share of the profits, if it's Madonna or Paul McCartney, it's only one person taking the lions share of the profit, they don't have to share it out other than to hired musicians or dancers.
The Stones and their promoters are going to try to get top money for top tickets and then just crab what they can to sell out the show.
Is it wrong to charge say £600 for a great ticket ? yes and no.
If it means by selling tickets for five or six hundred pounds we still get a chance to see them live, then i'm all for it, would i pay £600 for the best ticket, absolutely not, i'll leave that to someone with more money than sense
I also think sometimes we add the total cost of seeing the Stones as a package and blame the Stones lol.
Mick and Keith are not getting a share of our travel, and hotel expenses not to mention time lost at work. But i think we all tend to add up the total cost of seeing the Stones as if it's Micks fault

The press doesn't help by quoting the price of top-flight tickets, or extortionately priced secondary market rip-offs, as if that's what you have to pay to see them at all. I lost count of the people who assumed I'd paid upwards of £300 for a seat this time round because that's what the papers said. I can't afford to be a pit-or-nothing person (can't stand up for two hours or more these days anyway) but if they help to make cheaper seats and lucky dips possible, good luck to them.

Agree with all of this keithsman and Green Lady.
When you consider that at most shows there were many, many, tickets available under £100 between LD's, Groupons, GA and some of the nosebleeds. The focus still always lands on the higher priced pit tickets. Not just in the press, but amongst the fans as well. The one show where my LD landed me in GA (on the "rail" which was great), those around me kept talking about the high prices the people in front of us paid.. pointing to the GC and saying.. those people paid £800 pounds etc., which of course wasn't accurate.
The great thing about the price range imo is that nearly everyone can get what they need.. even "up close and personal" in the GC up against the catwalk for what I considered to be a very reasonable price. Would love for them to continue this pricing structure on the next tour.

MisterDDDD, remind me, which cities had this kind of ticket, "GC up against the catwalk?"
Was that a plain GC or early entry or part of a package? Thanks.

It's been "for sure" for the last 5 years.
Stadium or Arena? My feeling is that North America will get a stadium tour because the finances work out better for them. They also have a ready made stadium stage to use which has had fewer than 30 uses to date.

Reading poor people weep about rich people like The Rolling Stones making money is lame. The Stones charge market value for tickets, if they charged less then the people now paying high prices for tickets would be paying that same money to scalpers who would scoop up all of the cheap tickets... cheating The Stones out of their money.
Not to mention... anyone can get in to any Stones show for 50 bucks... A BARGAIN!!
yet the incessant whining from the usual suspects here about ticket prices (AND EVERYTHING ELSE) is never ending
There is more to say... but why waste the words?

Realistically, of course he is right. I'd be astonished if he wasn't. It was the same here in the UK. But sky high prices create great opportunities for Lucky Dippers because there's no way they'll sell out big venues at those prices. Buy LDs for several shows and you'll get lucky somewhere. I did and will happily do again, even though it took me 6 attempts to land a Pit. Up to that point I got 3 GAs (2 front row, 1 2nd front), 1 GC and an OK seat in a small venue (Southampton).
