Following the great and thought-provoking thread on the RS' possible regrets, what do you think they are proudest of, or should be?

Being alive for so long

Biggest accomplishment isn't their longevity alone imo, although that's phenomenal.
Their biggest accomplishment is their record breaking/setting success as a live act. Filling stadiums and setting attendance records in every decade they've played, including quite likely the next, marking seven decades.

A few others can perhaps lay claim to matching or coming close to matching their longevity, and if that were the only criteria for greatness,
The Beach Boys would also be playing stadiums instead of casinos.

Maybe they'll be proud of their next record and play some songs from it if they ever get around to finishing it - that would be a big accomplishment this late in their career.

To fill stadium is a reason of proudness after 56 years, but at these prices it's just incredible, fantastic ! Never regret money after a Stones show ...

What he said.

Plus the important part they played in reintroducing mainstream America to its blues heritage.

The catalog of their first 20 years. Such a wide range of excellent music, much of it genre-defining.

I would say not so much their longevity as performers; after all, there are many musicians with extremely long careers, but rather that they were able to overcome a number of serious setbacks, eg, protracted drug abuse, legal problems and conflicts between band members - their resilience and tenacity.

(I’m turning into you)
Maybe they’d be most proud of that
Twickenham 2018 show if they’d HD Blue Ray release it for a review ;-)

Most proud building a business from ground up/ entrepreneurship, authors, performers, staying alive and healthy,

but now I feel like I’m trying to explain the ‘magic’ of the RS
and as Keith says, it can’t be analyzed/ explained.

It's certainly tempting to say surviving 56 years intact, playing stadiums for 40+ years, all the money, etc...

But really, at the end of the day, it's the MUSIC. One can quibble with cutoff dates of when their prime songwriting days were (1972, 1978, 1981), but they've written good rock'n'roll songs up to and including Doom and Gloom (which I think is great)...that's an amazing body of work.

^^ They have achieved many things, but being intact is not one of them.

Much love to Brian and Stu.

They are actually so proud of this that they put (almost) exactly that it on their stuff thumbs up

One of those lines is an absolute No-No in this day and age, not to be condoned or joked about in any way. The World has moved on since that appeared on Merchandise on The Voodoo Lounge Tour And so have the Stones.

so many accomplishments.

so many great songs, so many tours, concerts, and to perform to the level they have been recently after 56 years is truly outstanding.

I think they also give people belief that they can also have achievements in later life, im 49 myself, had a few recent setbacks but always look to the stones as an inspiration to bounce back, i know a lot of time is behind me, but realizing what the stones can do also tells me i have a lot of time ahead of me too.

I think they have shifted the goalposts in regard defining the word old, some people become old early because they run out of motivation but looking at the stones should be an inspiration to all of us.

Longevity.

The 68 to 72 album run incl Ya-Ya's.

Tunes like GS, JJF & PIB still being used as soundtracks of the darker side of the 60s.

Easily the best rock n roll band to dance to - in other words their groove.

Wide range of genre's - they have mastered them all and defined some.

Brian's mid 60s use of exotic instruments.

Surviving Nellcote.

B n L - recorded in a few days.

No Filter 2018 - a resurrection of sorts.

Some very good points there Buttons. I think we can add all of the other great 60s survivors to the same boat- the Who, Paul McCartney, Fleetwood Mac and others. But I do believe the Stones have maintained a higher level of performance than them all in comparison to their peak years.

Their role in introducing the blues more broadly to the younger generation, to Britain, and eventually the world (including the land it originated from).
