Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Sunday headliners of the All Points East festival in Victoria Park, London, absolutely smashed it last night. Now with the three backing singers from the Cave & Ellis “Carnage” tour last year joining in the force, the expanded Bad Seeds delivered one hell of a show for their only UK appearance of the European Summer tour. Cave in his signature “rock ‘n’ roll preacher” mode, his engagement with the audience was a form of pure dedication. As they finished the show with Ghosteen Speaks, Cave told the fans numerously, “Thank you very much, good night,” and then added after a pause, “We have some time. One more song,” which threw the crowd into euphoria, roars of delight rising from all over the place. The Weeping Song, the added bonus, capped the memorable evening. The show clocked over 2 hours and 15 minutes, a full set unlike a festive headlining slot that is more often than not truncated, which was a treat for the fans who missed the cancelled Ghosteen tour two years ago.

I’m so glad I traveled all the way to London.

I hope we get the Bad Seeds in the US soon. I saw Nick & Warren recently & that was an amazing show also. I go back a long way with the Bad Seeds. BTW: I got a recent tape from Lithuania where they played 3 hours!

Multiple times! He's always different. Last 3 shows for me: Bad Seeds (2016), Red Hand Files (solo, right before pandemic), with Warren Ellis recently. All very unique & awesome. With the Bad Seeds is ultimate though

I've been an admirer of Nick Cave's albums for 30 years but strangely never managed to see him live until Sunday night at Victoria Park. I was absolutely blown away by what was almost an evangelical performance. The Bad Seeds ensemble was at the top of their game.

Beyond the music, I was astonished at Nick's preparedness to interact physically with the audience. He routinely held peoples' hands, and not only fleetingly. He let himself fall into the crowd periodically and climbed down off the walkways to stand in the crowd several times. He'd let someone in the front row hold his mic while he struck a pose. In COVID-19 times, that tactile contact with fans was unparalleled in my experience.

If you like his albums and are curious to see him live, don't hesitate.

Cheers,
SonicD

For those Nick Cave fans, and those just curious as to why he warrants a thread like this - he just released 4 films now available to rent or DL. The one Distant Sky, Live in Copenhagen can serve as a great intro. to Nick and the Bad Seeds. The 1st 3 songs are quiet (but intense in their own way) but by the time he gets to Higgs Boson Blues, things pick up considerably. Well worth the watch. Riveting.

Distant Sky is fantastic! The solo show @ Alexandra Palace is well worth a watch, too.

Caught Back To Black, the much hyped biopic of Amy Winehouse, at the local cinema two days ago, almost two months after its release (April 12 in the U.K.). Brilliant film — I thought so anyway, although the reviews are quite mixed. No matter how questionable the quality of the product itself may be, no one can deny or dismiss the powerful performance of Marisa Abela who acted the protagonist. She is so into the role that I almost felt as if the real Winehouse was alive and played herself — she is that good. My amazement got even bigger when I learned afterwards that she sang all the songs herself; I thought the singing scenes were dubbed in, transferred from the late singer’s original source material. A miraculous achievement in itself. One local publication described her as a “force of nature” and rightfully so. If Ms Abela is not nominated for next year’s Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, it would be criminal. In my opinion, she deserves the Oscar.

And what does that have got to do with Nick Cave? Well, while watching the end credit roll — I am a person who stays in the room until the very last, name-checking the cast and staff, indulging in the music and gloating over extra footage if any after the other viewers hastily head for the exit and leave the room — I spotted Soundtrack: Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. A pleasant surprise indeed, an added bonus. Also worth mentioning is Giles Martin as the music producer.

This alone is enough to make me consider going back to the cinema and rewatching the film all over again.

Never heard of him.

Should give him a shot. Wide range of stuff. From Birthday Party (sometimes harsh, freak-out type stuff) to his work with The Bad Seeds (less harsh and offensive but still unique and edgy art). Saw him live for the first time last year and he was fantastic. I wouldn’t say the best ever, but definitely elite.

At this stage in my life I'm settled in with my music choices. I don't have the time or desire to follow any new bands. There's plenty of groups from the 60's and 70's and even up to the 90's which I enjoy listening to. For the most part I'm married to the Woodstock era.

Those are my favorite eras too. Birthday Party started in the 70s.

It was bad. The documentary a few years ago was much better. The Cave soundtrack didn't stand out.

I know the reviews are varied. But is it that bad?
Marisa Abela’s acting is outstanding no matter what, at least.

As for the soundtrack, yeah, the music other than Winehouse’s own songs sung by Abela didn’t impress me in particular while I was watching the flick without knowing that was composed by Cave and Ellis until I spotted their names on the end credit roll, admittedly.

It's funny, my good friend's sister is dating a member of his band (Warren), for a few months now -- I think they are still together. She also dated Jeff Beck for a couple years back in the early 90s -- and in the 80s she dated a guy from The A's, an obscure new wave group / one hit wonder (Women's Got the Power).

She likes musicians!

Without taking any credit away from NC, it is curious that a stones fan declares their admiration for NC as the best performer on stage on a website like this one.

You have to be there.

Scroll up and check out my post on top of this page as well as the fifth one from the top by SonicDreamer, both commenting on his performance with the Bad Seeds at the All Points East festival at Victoria Park in London, two years ago.

I’d say, he is certainly one of the best performers in rock, if not the single best performer, for sure.

Hoping Nick comes back to Van next year. His last show with Warren (doing most of Ghosteen & Carnage) was fantastic.

Nick Cave is in the same swimming club as myself.I can definitely say his stage performance is way better than his front crawl. But saying that I would only rate him as a third division performer compared to Sir Mick.
