he died in 2000 actually....check out his biography, "Papa John" - a great read and several stories that include the Stones.

do you mean Pay Pack and Follow? there's some nice stuff on that album.

Pay, Pack and Follow is very good. It's a bit like Ron's first solo efforts. In other words: VERY good.

Check out his autobio "Papa John" - reads like Sanchez's "Up N Down With The Rolling Stones", except nastier.

Regardless, he goes into some detail about how and where the project started and was eventually abandoned.

Hey....it looks like the same author wrote both "Up and Down" and "Papa John".
Yes, I know that Tony Sanchez is credited as the author of the former, but 'Spanish Tony" didn't actually write the book. According to Keith: "Tony can't even write his own name."

Seems to me that in addition to John Phillips, another man is listed as co-author of "Papa John". I'd bet its the same dude that helped out Sanchez.

Hey there I'm still here ladies and gents, long time lurker as they say. First post though. Great board. I recently got Jack of Diamonds, another archival release of Papa John from the early 70s, but haven't heard it yet. I'm probably gonna check out his stuff with the Journeymen as well, I know they did the immortal Jesse Fuller tune San Francisco Bay Blues, so they've gotten be pretty good!

There was an interesting story floating about, I think I read it in a Vanity Fair article about rock star's kid.
Mackenzie Phillips daughter of John was 14 at the time of the recording of Pay Pack and Follow...Mick was frequently over at the house doing blow and had sex with her! John said he didn't mind, but he was pounding on the door saying "treat her right Mick!"
Seems pretty seedy...something out of @#$%& Blues;-)

Actually I heard a variation of this story told by Mackenzie herself on the Howard Stern Show. I think she said it took place around 1980 and Mick convinced John to go out and get him a sandwich(!). When he left, he locked Mackenzie and himself in a room and did whatever he did. That's all I remember.
