It's normally the same here in Europe - e.g. in Germany the Lanxess-Arena in Cologne or the Mercedes-Benz-Arena (former O2-World) in Berlin have both a capacity of nearly 20,000 and are used beside Concerts also for Ice Hockey.

Due to the closed construction the stadium-sized 'Indoor'-Arena feels inside basically the same like the classic 20,000 Indoor-Arena, but twice as large.

San Jose doesn't have an NFL team, so they had to settle for a soccer stadium for the 'Earthquakes'...lmao winking smiley

Well the new Santa Clara 49ers huge stadium out in the boondocks (not in ‘the city’ anymore) closer to San Jose.

Anyway, it’s been fun speculating possible shows but my don’t count chickens before hatched tells me to temper myself
Wonder if it’s going to be a slow torturous drip of information over the next months confused smiley

Except if you are in the stands adjacent to the stage, it is quite far away, nearly 50 feet of empt6 floor between lower stands and the stage instead of a few feet. I had a few of those tix in Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Paris, was disappointed.

You would have to bring back Michael Cohl for that to happen. He was responsible for the Mega themed tours starting with Steel Wheels and finishing with a Bigger Bang. Who they have now has brought us 14 on Fire/Zip Code mini tours.

Red Rocks would be a dream come true for fans around the world but it's not uncommon to get snow as late as the end of May.

I'd be thrilled if it turned out this was an arena tour. Would also be thrilled if they played Denver and I didn't have to get on an airplane to see the Stones.

in prehistoric times, when people used phones for talking with other people, 411 was the number you dialed (look that up - dialed) to get someone's phone number. Give me the 411 = give me the info.

Well yeah, but there's a big difference - literally - and not just in size. The sound suffers a bit in those giant buildings, and the most obvious difference would be the visual perspective from various areas of the building. There's quite a difference between sitting in the back of an enormous stadium of apprx. 80,000 capacity vs. the back of an indoor arena with apprx. 20,000 capacity. I've experienced both. At one of the L.A. Coliseum shows in '89 (over 90,000 capacity at the time), I opted for a cheapy nosebleed at the very back almost the highest row up. It was like sitting on the edge of the Grand Canyon, and back then there was a huge delay between the sound traveling and any screens that were used. Learned my lesson at that show - never again. On the other hand, since then I've been to a few arena shows in the back via lucky dips which is nowhere near as bad as the back of the Coliseum - but even then it felt awkward and I've managed to maneuver my way down to better seats each time.

You're of course right regarding the visual perspective as well as the sound-quality. Since I always try to get a seat as close as possible to the stage, I had simply forgotten to think about these points .... smiling smiley

Given the last Denver gig was in '05, they're definitely due for one, but I doubt we'd ever see the Stones play Red Rocks given they can as easily play Pepsi or whatever Mile High is called these days. "Would you like to play to 9000 people in a unique picturesque venue, or 18000 people in an arena?" is an easy choice for them, and it doesn't result in playin Red Rocks unfortunately.

In 2014 they had the offer to play Olympia Stadium Berlin 70000 cap. or to play the Waldbühne right next to the stadium with 19000. They decided for Waldbühne. Stones at Red Rocks is possible.

As someone who attends 5-10 shows a year at Red Rocks I would love this, but really you would need 5000 oxygen tanks just to get the majority of the fan base up the climb to the amphitheater.

They played Mexico City (elevation 7200 ft) two years ago but I agree that all the stairs at Red Rocks would add a physical challenge for the fans.

2013 arena tour (I missed it).

Although the new AVAYA STADIUM in San Jose (capacity 18,000)
has not been played yet by the RS
and the lovely San Jose Fairmont hotel is close by...
or,
the new Sacramento Stadium also never graced by RS
and then Mick and the boys can stay at my house drinking smiley

35, r u from Sactown? My hometown, but have been in Montana since '83. I assume u r talking about the new arena downtown where the Kings play? Sure would like to see a return to the glory days of the early 2000s.

No Filter 2017 was a mix of Arenas and Stadia. The Arenas were big, for soccer, but still indoors 100%.

Yep - Amsterdam Arena, Telia Parken Copenhagen, Esprit Arena Düsseldorf, Friends Arena Stockholm, GelreDome Arnhem as well as U Arena Paris are Indoor-Arenas: [iorr.org] .

Yes, but these are technically stadiums. Esprit Arena is cited as a stadium for example. They all have a capacity of 30,000 to 40,000 and the stadium stage fits in. A real intimate arena setting includes a small stage, and 11,000 to may 19,000 people fitting in. And of course, because thats what I wanna see again, real great setlists with some very rare songs and up to 23 played.

Yes there's a bit of confusion regarding Euro arenas vs US/NA arenas.

Over here in the US/NA, an arena is specifically an indoor building built for basketball and hockey with an apprx. seating capcity at around 20,000 max - give or take. Amsterdam Arena is definitely not that based on NA/US defnition with a concert capacity of apprx. 68,000. If someone from the US/NA didn't know better and they were given a ticket for Amsterdam Arena, they'd be in for a surprise upon entering what the enormous stadium.
Ahoy in Rotterdam, the old Wembley Arena in London, and Stockholm Globe Arena (now knows as Ericson Globe) for example are more akin to the typical basketball/hockey arena over here in the US/NA.

The L.A. Forum (the former home of the Lakers and Kings) has a capacity of apprx. 18,000 for concerts.
On the larger side would be the Staples Center in L.A. (the current home of the Lakers, Kings, and Clippers) which has a capacity of apprx. 19,000 for concerts.
Then you look at the smallish indoor San Diego Sports Arena (now called Valley View Casino Center), and the MGM Grand Arena in Vegas both with a capacity of apprx. 16-17,000.

I've seen the Stones in all of the above, and at this point doesn't really matter if it's a stadium, a football arena, a basketball arena, a hockey arena, or whatever someone wants to call it. The fact is they're still rolling and will be performing at a venue somewhere near me. And even though I'd prefer to see them at the L.A. Forum over Dodger Stadium, wherever they play in the L.A. area I'll be there.

Hairball is the San Diego Sports Arena (now called Valley View Casino Center)owned by an Indian Casino or tribe from San Diego County?

Yes - Valley View Casino Center

"On October 12, 2010, it was announced that the arena's name had been changed to the "Valley View Casino Center", under a $1.5 million,
5-year agreement between the arena operator AEG, the San Pasqual Band of Diegueno Mission Indians and the city of San Diego"

You can see in this pics it is quite small compared to newer arenas- capacity 14,800 for concerst vs. L.A. Staples Center at 19,000.
I saw the Stones there in 2002 up front, and it was quite a great show w/a great setlist. thumbs upThe Rolling Stones San Diego Sports Arena San Diego, CA, USA Thursday Nov. 14, 2002
