As far as MSG- It's a venue (not just for music) of lore. So many classic shows, not to mention hockey games, basketball games, boxing matches have taken place there. But NYC is not the same NYC of the 60s and 70s. MSG is still a special hall but there's no grit or funkiness to NYC these days. Times Square is all neon and chain restuarants, gone are the days of pimps and peep shows. MSG has been redone, people aren't standing on chairs and going bonkers when the band hits the stage. The hype of MSG is more a thing of legend, no longer a magical place on it's own.

I agree w Kurt, I don't see MSG as the home of the Stones as much as the home of legend.

so true, the magic is gone now without the pimps'n'peepshows.

I was reading a list of the top tours of the 2010s the other day and the Stones were something like 18th out of 20 during the decade.
It’s amazing how far they’ve fallen really,8 years in and they have no new music and it seems everyone from Springsteen to U2 and even Coldplay have done more concert business.
McCartney had two tours that outsold No Filter and with a couple of top five records and now a number 1 seems to have really outworked the Stones the last few years.
We’re debating about them playing MSG as if it’s 1975 or something, everyone plays the Garden nowadays and sells it out. Like someone said, Phish plays there all the time.
If I were the Stones I’d be nicer to my fan base because it’s getting smaller all the time.If the record bombs They have maybe one more tour of big places and then it’s on to the Indian casino circuit.

Meh.
Feel free to post a link to this mysterious article's slant.
What is true, is every time they've toured in the 2010's they've been at or near the top in terms of attendance records and revenues per show. What is also true is they can sell out any venue of their choosing, any time of their choosing.

Why is NYC such a big thing? I’ve seen better shows in places like Hersey PA. and Buffalo , Ny. Better crowds too

bc NYC is the biggest and most commercially important city in the world. If you can make it there...you can make it anywhere...NY NY.....

Hershey, PA????? C'mon man. You've got to be kidding.

Because these aren't really "tours" in the usual sense, just small limited runs of shows.

If I compare San Diego to Buenos Aires it's two totally different things. San Diego was doctors and lawyers in their 60s, drinking white wine and taking their wives out for a nostalgic evening w the Rolling Stones at $600 a clip. Buenos Aires was 80k rabid fans raging from age 14-70. So rabid they didn't even sell beer in the stadium. There was nothing nostalgic about it. It was electric, relevant, cathartic, life affirming rock and roll!

Translation : the "West" (Europe + USA + Canada) is old, bloated, and blasé while the rest of the planet is bursting with passion and eager. The Stones are a good geopolitical barometer! thumbs up

That's what the lists I've been reading say, too.

They're more like a short jaunt with plenty of leisure time in between each show - customized to accommodate their age.

lem, you lost me with that one. Their final major tour was A BIGGER BANG. They still play large venues and do quite well on the basis of boxscore. It's a law of large numbers. Playing 14 shows a year isn't going to put you anywhere near the top of the year or decade's biggest tours. They're old men who have slowed down considerably rather than choose retirement. They're not in the race any longer.

Probably, that won't happen after they parted ways with Michael Cohl..

Canada (continent-wise) is probably included in the North-American tour plans smiling smiley

Well since nothing is announced yet, nobody knows what it’s gonna be like.

I’m sure 14 shows. It’s a great formula at their age so why rock the boat

Yes 14 shows would be nice, a friend of mine last saw them in 81, he's looking forward to this one as it could be last time in this area.

At their age, a mini should be expected. If they get all worked up, it could be more enlarged. Sometimes old men surprise themselves.

The 14 show committment was under the old contract that expired this year. Seems to work for them, though, so we'll see what Joyce negotiates.

Satisfied since 1976

Guess it will be 14 shows but they will do only 14 songs each gig next year.
