I'm thinking about him right now !
Last night I was at a burger joint and Paint It Black from the Ed Sullivan Show was playing on the video screen. Fab stuff. I'm not a "Brianista" but that era of the Stones (essentially the Decca period) has always been my favourite. Wish the band and ABKCO could find their way to releasing some more lost gems from that part of their career. A properly well-thought through Anthology-style series of sets would be a superb addition to their back catalogue.

The founder...yep. IMHO, he was the coolest Stone back then and is still cool. I will listen to some original Stones today.

For years there wasn't a way to hear much of Brian live. In the past few years we got a live Little Red Rooster, another live Movin' On, a live I Can't Be Satisfied, to show that he did variate and improvise on his slide leads. The mystery is why he never did much in the way of finger leads, or on acoustic. Stu said he was playing Django when he first heard him. Extremely talented, extremely fragile.

ive never been one to compare the different eras of jones/taylor/woods.

all have been important to the bands history and continuation in different ways so all have their place in my heart.

brian was one of the most important musicians ever, he formed the band and helped give it the huge eclectic mix of sounds and textures that emitted in those early days right up until shortly before his tragic death. The band continued but just along different lines, it will be great to see the stones in warsaw next sunday, and i will be thinking of brian just as i will be thinking of all the others who have played an important part in getting the stones to where they are today.

hopefully in future we get more vaults releases from the brian era. live performances seen or unseen previously, rarities, outtakes etc.

Brian played guitar better than he ever gets credit for. If Stu says he was playing Django Rienhardt then you can take that to the bank. Rest In Peace Brian you are remembered and appreciated for your extraordinary talent. He brought his slide guitar to the Ed Sullivan show and millions of Americans saw it for the first time that night.

In memory of Brian...

Listening to this as I do every July 3rd, it's almost as if you're in the same room sitting right across from him - you can hear the bottleneck slide and rattle along the frets.
No Expectations

Thank you Hairball; beautiful work from Brian. He was great on the slide. His timing is awesome, juggling between the melody at times and and Keith's acoustic; it feels natural and spontaneous, emotionally matching the theme of the song.
Rockandroll,
