Sad news, his "Illustrated Record" was essential reading and a vital source of information in the pre-internet age.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Roy Carr, a journalist of integrity. In the days before the internet his work in NME etc was anticipated and respected.

Another good man gone

I think most of them did, it was the way they were bound which effectively made all the pages perforated down one side.

That´s sad. My first ever Stones´ book, bought at a flea market.
It ended after the 1976 tour with "That´s all folks (for now)".

Sorry to hear that...essential information when I was trying to learn all I could...
...and still an excellent read of the thinking the time (whether you agree awith it all or not)...
...and the quote from Rolled Gold is all that needs to be said...

My copy fell apart as well (funny, I don't remember having that problem with the Beatles book). Held onto it for a long while anyway, just because it contained such great info.

This was my first Stones book.I learned a lot about the band from it.Yes the binding wasn't particularly good, but it's still hanging in there, gathering dust, and part of my collection.

My first Stones book too..It started falling apart after about 6 months..I treasure it and have read/browsed it so many times since '76..Wonderful book and memories of that year..Black and Blue and getting into the band in a huge way!...(It was Barbara Cherone's review of Black and Blue in 'Sounds' that started me on my Stones journey).

Like many others, Roy's book was the first in my (now extensive) Stones library.
Back in the '70s Roy was the voice of reason in the NME.
It's very sad to hear of his death. A great writer, who cared about the music and the people he wrote about.

Back in the late 70's Roy Carr used to put together tapes for me of rare Stones stuff in return for decent bottles of wine. A fair exhange I thought. He invited me down to the NME offices in Csrnaby Street to spend a day with him. Lovely man and great journalist. Extremely well respected in the music business.Nothing was too much trouble. Another very sad loss.

This was my first Stones book too. I remember going to see the Stones at Knebworth in 1976, buying Roy's book, Black and Blue and Rolled Gold and have been a fan ever since.

RIP Roy.

Ironically the technical bookbinding term for that is 'Perfect binding'.
