I must admit that Giroud was absolutely disappointing from the beginning of the world cup.
Modric is a very good collective player and a real game leader.
Look at the stats on Skysports and you will see Croatia had the most posession, shots, chances.
Anyway without scoring goals - having the most ball posession doesn't help. France are good winners... congrats.

Well, the free kick that lead to goal #1 was nothing. The penalty decision was dubious.
Very important decisions that went in favour of France, imo.
France deserved the title for their cynicism, professionalism and efficiency, though. Congrats, France!

what a match, so exiting, such a relief that the dodgy penalty didn't decide the match.
So sorry for Croatia though, they played so determinedly and hard, next time maybe its England or Croatia who wins, we never know .

The handball penalty call is a complete game-changer. It is one of the worst rules in soccer. Especially when the ball rolls off a French players back and barely touches the Croatian players hand unintentionally. It tarnishes the tournament.
You're right, Sicilian. The referee shouldn't have used VAR here. There was nothing the Croatian defender could do to avoid the touch. No matter the touch, I don't think it was a penalty. France was lucky. All the same, congrats to France. They scored three goals besides the lucky penalty. A good game. Poor Croatia. They deserved better. 4-2, far better than 0-0 and penalties after all...

The Croatian goalie was remarkably bad in this game. Did he even make one save in the whole game? He wasn't near on any of the goals. And the French goalie did an own goal. Remarkable in a WC final.

Strange scenes took place during the medal ceremony. They were all soaked except President Putin who was shielded from the rain with an umbrella. A woman official stole one of the gold medals also. Strange!

Jpasc95: All I'm saying that almost every expert (former refeeres) I have listened to have said a) you can award a penalty there b) they wouldn't have done it. They basically don't think that the ref should have used VAR in this situation. He should have ruled by his first instinct. I tend to agree. I think the penalty was very harsh. But let's agree to disagree on this then. No harsh feelings. Sorry about the provincialism insinuation. Unnecessary of me.

Okey: It's not about technicalities. The ball touches the defenders hand or arm. No doubt about that. And no one has claimed that it didn't. It's about judgement and the right level of decision. Take in mind that it's a final of the World Cup. You shouldn't give a penalty on peanuts. Which the ref did. Unfortunatelly. I have searched the internet on this. And almost every player or referee agrees with that. Nota bene: I do not say that you can't call that a penalty. You can. I'm just saying that you shouldn't.

Croatia did very well,but seemed to be a bit tired today in the second half.
Understandable,adding 3 extra times it's been a whole extra match they've played,plus a day less preparing for the final.

What an amazing sunday !
The people in the streets everywhere, not only in the big cities.
I think we deserved it, playing a non-flamboyant, but realistic and efficient footbal. The team spirit was amazing, and that's the secret.
The coach did not call some talented players in his team just because he knew their personality wouldn't fit. Great job !
