Even when they're busy defeating your home team, Belgium are a very enjoyable side to watch - a well deserved win.

Here: De Bruyne, a class act. Lukaku, overrated. Such poor ball reception. Pickford, the best goalie I have seen in this WC. Dier, squandered his chance. Poor boll handling. Weak finishing.
There you go. 2-0 Belgium. Congrats to the Bronze! Well deserved. England, 4:th. All in all, a good tournament for them also. Their second best WC ever. At least if you look at the result.

No it isn’t. They lost 1-2 to Italy in the 3rd/4th place game in 1990.

grzegorz67: So you mean one 4:th place is better than the other? They are both 4:th places. Their combined second best WC ever then. Together with 1990. Quibble...

If you don’t remember the 1990 World Cup, check the records. They lost one game in open play - the 3rd/4th place game.

They very unluckily lost the Semi to West Germany on penalties after arguably being the better team, the latter goIng on to win the competition.

This year they lost 3 games and benefited from a very kind draw. This year’s squad are decent, but they have nowhere near the talent of that 1990 squad, which included Paul Gascoigne, Chris Waddle and Gary Linekar.

And btw, I’m a Scot and they’re our biggest rivals in over 150 years of football.

I do agree that (1990) was a better team. This time it was mostly down to the lucky draw (and the failure of favorites like Germany, Argentina and Spain). They didn't score many goals in open play against good competition. But statistics doesn't take that into consideration. A 4:th place is a 4:th place!

May we discuss our prediction game for a while? I think Dirty Harry is out climbing mountains in Africa again. It's the last game of the WC tomorrow. My own prediction is not going well. I have only managed to score 3 points since the quarterfinals. Which is poor. Luckily most others have been down on luck also. I'm 2 points up on Quique-stone. Anything can happen tomorrow. Have you checked your position lately?

only seen 5 minutes of belgium v england, so will only comment on those 5 minutes.

hazard gave the ball away 4 times in this period, he basically screwed up 4 easy passes which he does constantly in every game he plays, the media didnt report this and it makes me wonder if they actually do their jobs properly.

as for those that think belgium should be in the final with france, belgium have had their game with france, they lost and thus dont deserve to win the world cup.

Agree, Buttons. They are not as good as they think they are. But that goes for every team I guess. I think it's called provincialism. Nothing to take seriously. They were lucky against Japan.
I think De Bruyne is a good player though. Lukaku is overrated. Some bad defending is this game. And some bad passes too.

But they dispersed of England with ease and could have easily put four goals on them and Lukaku was benched out early.

Right. Some can not bear the fact that Belgium has won twice from England. Both games were Belgians better.

I also believe that Belgium deserved to win.
They played faster, especially Hazard.

He said today that France deserved to win the cup. Nice guy really grinning smiley

Two things today:

- World Cup final between France and Croatia
- Wimbledon final between Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson

Another thing is the fact that Djokovic, who is a Serb, has said that he will support Croatia. Which has caused anger in parts of Serbia.
The conflicts in these parts of the world are still alive and well. Even though the war is over.

I'm Belgium, what's the fact? 3th or 4th?.
Nobody is asking that! In our village 25à30 people where going to see the game on a big screen in our village! I even didn't watch the game.

So what is that, Tioms? Hubris? You think you were too good for a bronze game? Let's face it. You lost to France. You had your chance. But didn't take it.

One thing Belgium did very well and football coaches should learn from is this: The fast changeovers from defending to attack.
Look at the 2-0 goal against England. 3-4 passes, 10-15 seconds and then...goal!
