Good luck today by the way, Jpasc95. I have a notion you are French? The French will be favorites. But Argentina is Argentina and...Messi. Good luck anyway.

Croatia got ripped off in 2014, that's why I'm glad to see VAR, try to take out at least some problems in the system. I respect those who don't like VAR at all, I've talked to some of those too. Croatia had some sort of problem with the 2016 Euro as well, with Portugal but I forget the nature of that. Maybe it was just tempers flaring as they do.

Even with improvements to officiating, problems will remain I think no matter what.

--------

The Sochi Olympics had no problems at all. So, when Russia hosts these events, it's likely that there will not be problems. BTW, they have had a few incidences but not much, not like in other World Cups.

Don't you just hate those boring, cagey knockout round matches where nobody wants to make a mistake and both teams are holding out for penalties. grinning smiley

France to next round.............Argentina out.

A well deserved 4-3 to France, with Argentina getting a last minute goal.

Not a great game, but entertaining. thumbs up

Totally agree!
Argentina didn't feel good in any minute of the game.
Well played by France!

Argentina really need to get attacking after their added extra time goal. I really have to wonder, a bit of a scuffle in that extra time and then, the game ended fairly quickly when they got it back going.

Stellar play by Mbappé and others too, definitely.

Congrats to France!

Yes ! I thought with all that scuffle going on and almost coming to blows, the ref would have added another 2 minutes to the end, but he didn't.

Argentina should have got on playing the game instead.

Will never know if they could have got another goal.

Hard to see that one coming. I guessed 0-0 and, maybe, penalties. It went the other way around. 7 goals! One player: Mbappé! I feel sorry for Argentina though.
They came back after the penalty but was punished again. Some very fine goals in this match! Poor Maradona!

An OT question for all the soccer fanatics here. I see Wayne Rooney signed with DC United of MLS. I've heard of him but have no clue has to how good a player he is/was. I'm assuming he's past his prime now and is coming to North America similar to Beckham several years ago?

Re: OT: The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

I'm afraid you're right, DGA35. But a very good player he is. Hopefully he can show that in the US as well. He has all the skills. Beckham was more of a specialist (passes, corners, free kicks).
He doesn't have Beckham's looks though. If anyone is looking for that?

Beckham joined the MLS too early. He still had too much to offer in Europe. Rooney, however, is not adapting or ageing particularly well. He has a very disappointing season back at his home club, Everton. He'll still be a cut above the majority of his team-mates and competetors in the U.S., but D.C. United are not getting the Rooney of old.

Congrats Uruguay! You have two great strikers. Portugal only has one. Luck ran out for Portugal. Suarez has stopped biting people. Now he is a good actor though. And a good football player.
Prison is waiting for Ronaldo when he comes home...

No, he isn't and he shouldn't act anymore! And yes, he is a good and brave player!

Well done Uruguay, very good games. A hard fought win, I had to miss some of it, from what I saw, it seemed Suarez was pretty quiet but I missed about a half.

I really hope, Argentina will allow a change I und the Team...sampaoli and a good chunk of those defenders go home, and a Team around the best Players will remain, including Messi, but without hin being number one. He can play one more World Championship just not as the one and only saviour. Vamos Argentina!

well done both uruguay and france.

dont worry ronaldo and messi fans, they will get to meet, but at the airport.

especially glad ronaldos out, the most overrated player of all time.

when does he ever dribble past an opponent, or play the killer through pass or deliver the quality cross into the box for someone to header a goal. he just showboats, then gives the ball to the man side or behind him, runs into the penalty box and expects everyone else to do what he cant and seldom has done in world cups. when he does score its because he has teammates that can do what he cant.

at least now other players might get a bit of credit from the so called experts.

There is a message board over there too.

Well hockey isn't. What do you think of the Buffalo Sabres first pick of the entire draft of Rasmus Dahlin? The Sabres have 10 Swedes in their rookie development camp this week including recently signed 2014 draft pick Victor Olofsson.

Sicilian: A highly skilled and technical player. They can't go wrong there. Hopefully he excels. Overall I'm not that keen on the NHL draining our own league on all our talent.
Nowadays they take them when they are still junior players. It's highly damaging to Swedish club hockey. I don't like it.

I know, no one cares, but here are some notices taken from Swedish tabloids about the WC 2018:

- Rurik Gislason, Iceland, now has 1,2 million followers on his instagram account. The best looking player in the WC apparently. He has recieved many advertising
offers from companys around the world. (For history buffs: Rurik was the viking who founded Russia. Strange coincidence?)

- Fines: Mexico has been fined twice by FIFA for their fans behaviour during the games against Germany and Sweden. Russia also, for a neo-nazi flag.
And Serbia for a "offensive" flag. Also Marocko is fined (unsportmanlike conduct).

Hi Stoneage,
yes indeed I'm French
Luck was on our side yesterday even if I think we deserved to win.

Now Mbappé is a hero in France. It's fortunate he woke up at last !
Disappointed by Griezmann who is still having some rest on the ground.

I think you're Swedish right ?
your team will have to play against the pitbull Shakiri of Switzerland.
Wish you the best....

Thanks, Jpasc95! Yep, we have our work cut out. The Swiss team is ranked number 6 on the FIFA ranking (Sweden #24). So they will be favorites of course.
But, there is still hope around here. We played well against Mexico.
