was just thinking about this yesterday. Why were they let go? And why did they decide to keep Tim Ries?

I recall that the thinking was that they'd reduce the number of backing people and make the guitars carry more of the load.

I recall that the thinking was that they'd reduce the number of backing people and make the guitars carry more of the load. So they chopped the last hired singer and the non-sax horn players.

They were just not necessary to keep them on board and who realy is missing them?

Yes, nothing against them, but it had gotten too damn crowded up there.

I thought Blondie was given the axe under not-so-friendly circumstances.
Whatever the case, he's not missed.

How is getting rid of these people making the guitar carry more of the load. Their playing does not change a thing. Can you give me an example?

I can't recall, that's why I said "I thought"...might be buried in some old thread from around the time he departed.
Then again, there was also talk of Lisa getting the axe under not-so friendly circumstances, but seems that was all based on speculation so who knows.

Last time I saw him was with Beth Hart en Joe Bonamassa in Amsterdam a few years ago. Great show, but Blondie had a minor role, like he did with the Stones.

I do believe that the 'big band' set up allowed for Ronnie and Keith to do more posing and less playing. To me slimming down the orchestra is an improvement. Also I experienced a less prominent role by Chuck.

Wasn't Blondie playing beneath the stage during the Licks and/or ABB tour?

beneath the stage or behind the curtain, the latter as I recall, but would bow to superior knowledge on this point.

I liked the horns and trumpets especially on songs like Brown sugar, satisfaction, tumbling dice but also on heartbreaker or bitch.

With just the Saxophone I recon there is sth. missing.

Is this the only tune Blondie's guitar is audible on? I haven't heard others.

If you want to stay on The Stones Tour

-No hefty weight gains
-Don't ask for more money
-Don't inadvertently piss off Mick or Keith
-No intoxicants beyond a beer or two or a joint
-Don't smoke cigarettes around Mick...Only Keith can

So in other words, Blondie did all five?
(Except possibly the first one...)

Tim Ries forming The Rolling Stones Project and Band 2 and becoming closer to the band than some of the others didn't hurt, certainly.

There are lots of stories about Blondie. Allegations of over-indulgence making him risky to have around Keith were suggested. Others speculated it was a power-move by Mick to remove one of Keith's to make way for the return of one of his own (Matt). Still others say it was a mutual decision by Mick and Keith to strip it down a bit. The various stories about Mick Taylor being an insurance policy from 2012-2014 should likewise be considered. It certainly didn't stop Blondie from working on I FEEL LIKE PLAYING and CROSSEYED HEART.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I really liked the punchy horn section in the '90s at the end of Brown Sugar and Jumpin' Jack Flash. It was cheesy and over the top, but it really brought the show home during the big spectacular finales on the Voodoo Lounge and B2B tours.

However, I didn't like the horns on Satisfaction and especially not on the SFTD encore during the No Security tour. That was blasphemous.

I remember reading on here that he played under/behind the curtain on some tracks to beef up the sound as this was when Keith's playing started to decline noticeably.

I saw Blondie playing guitar behind the stage at a Stones gig in 2005. It was on one of the first 3 songs. Possibly all 3. Saw him with my own eyes as my seat was located at the side of the stage.

Edit: it was on Shattered and She’s so Cold.
