Here's a question: Who seems to be the most approachable rock 'n' roller? The one person, male or female, that you could have a friendly conversation with and not deal with their ego or any of the other b.s. that comes along with them. My vote would have to be Ron Wood because he seems like such a all-around nice guy and a bit of a joker too. I'd also have to say Brian Johnson from AC/DC. He seems very genuine in the interviews that I've seen him in.

I'm not a big Aerosmith fan (Aero-Jovi is getting pretty near the mark these days), but about fifteen years ago they were using Edmonton as a hub for a set of concerts that they were doing in Western Canada, and a friend of mine happened to see Steve Tyler and Joe Perry on a regular basis just doing regular stuff. He spoke to them on a number of occasions, they were very friendly and totally cool about taking the time to talk to fans who were interested in music. I was surprised that these dudes were so cool, and while what I heard doesn't make me like their recent work anymore (Armaggedon! Holy Sh!t), I do appreciate the main dudes in the band as people much more that I ever thought I would.

They "should" be arriving in Pittsburgh by 6pm...they left Toronto not long ago. Looking for the incoming private flights at the moment, no luck yet...but I have the hotel info..just need to narrow down the arrival time so I don;t have to wait more than an hour and end up standing out.

My vote goes to Springsteen.
Seems like he's someone who's driving his rented Ford Escort to the Grammy Awards with a speech or thankyous in the backpocket of his jeans. Doing this in between household jobs and pubvisits.

I recently met the guitarist from Thin Lizzy on a flight from London to Oslo. Don't recall his name, American guy from LA who has lived in UK for 30 odd years. Very nice guy in any case.

also ,just my impression of springsteen...saw him interviewed on tv some years ago on the charlie rose show here in the states.....he seems like the kind of person you could have a beer and a laugh with...had a positive vibe....best wishes

A bit off-topic but I remember going to see George Thorogood in 1981 and there was a Checkered Cab outside the venue with Delaware plates. I was told out the he drove everywhere in that thing for that tour, about 200 dates across North America (I saw him in Edmonton, which is a long way from Delaware).

Paul Stanley (was sitting a few seats away at a concert - I had 2 year old KISS stubs in my wallet). Gene Simmons acts like he doesn't like it but its just another mask he wears.

Marky Ramone is really cool to the fans but doesn't quite come across the same way when the fans arent around.

John Weathers, the great, powerful drummer from Gentle Giant, was (probably still is) an extremely approachable rock musician. Shook hands with him in '76, before a concert. GG were pretty big here then, yet he was chatting with fans right in the audience before the gig.

Stone Roses singer Ian Brown - was on holiday in Tokyo and went to see him at a venue called the Liquid Rooms. His crew invited my wife and I backstage because I think we were the only people from the UK there. Sat drinking with him and his band until the early hours. It was after he'd done some time in jail for an incident on a plane. Seemed like a really decent bloke who was totally untouched by fame.

Being an Allman Brothers fan myself, I've met everyone who has been a part of the band in one way or another since the band started playing again in the early 1990s.

The only one who really seemed to be kind of a prick was Dickey Betts, who had just stormed off the stage after finishing the encore of Whipping Post at the end of the band's second show at Cleveland's Nautica Stage in 1998. He signed a few (and I mean a few) autographs and ran off before the rest of the band even got through the backstage area.

I was really surprised at how nice and courteous Gregg Allman was, who stood at chatted at the beginning of the a.m. show.

Others I'Ve met: The actor Billy Bob Thornton outside a Dickey Betts concert at the Brickyard in Columbus, OH. I had some nice chats with Ghostbuster Harold Ramis and cartoonist Arnold Roth (Playboy, Punch and NY Times) while working for the University News Paper.

BTW, still got the Eat A Peach CD with the ABB autographs. Still sad I didn't get to catch the band with Duane and Berry (hey, I'm only 26).

I've also met Chuck myself, and he's a very nice guy indeed. Same with Darryl Jones.

Yes Chuck is a sweet man as is Bobby Keyes and the entire brass section but Daryl Jones really impressed me because of his modesty. I told him he was doing a great job filling Wyman's shoes and he blushed and said how nice that was to hear!

Woody was drinking with a handful of poeple after the show in the hotel bar 2 weeks ago in Milwaukee. He is a decent dude! It was very fun just be in the same room.

I've met both Jonny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Jonny is easily approachable as he frequently signs autographs after his shows. He has no detectable ego and will answer any questions asked of him. Kenny has pre-arranged meet and greets before his shows. He doesn't say much but he put his arm around my shoulder when I had my picture taken with the band.

Bernard Fowler allowed me a phone interview in '96 (Nickelbag's killer debut & Charlie's "Long Ago..." had just been issued), w/ no official press creds. Also very bright, friendly, & easy to talk to during the '92-93 RW tour.
I never get to Texas, but Ian McLagan has responded promptly to emails in the past, & those plus his fan-friendly website & book lead me to see him as warm, open, & friendly.
And when I worked at Tower in Cambridge, Peter Wolf always came to me to get his (usually jazz, blues, gospel, etc) stuff rung up - & was friendly. Frequently unrecognized in a crowded store, even tho he looked EXACTLY like he did at the Boston Garden 20 years earlier. Signed my J.Geils cds, chatted quietly, etc. BTW I dismissed Aerosmith in the Tyler post, but Perry did agree to pose for a photo w/ a Tower employee who was a big fan.

met dee dee ramone some years back...seemed friendly, but wacky....my girlfriend got him to sign ramones cds (even though someone told her he wouldn't) r.i.p. dee dee, johnny & joey.....1,2,3,4!!!!
