Modern music is awful because the guitar solos have (all but) disappeared

Modern Music Is NOT Awful. You listen to the wrong bands. Today, we have still great artists, but they are not famous. They play in clubs for 50 - 200 people.
Check out for example The Lazys from Australia.

Modern music is not crap. If you're expecting music from 1972 to reappear, you are delusional. Rock and roll is dead, except for an occasional burp here and there. There's plenty of good music our there from around the world, but you have to open your mind and your ears.

I cringe every time this thread comes up.
Most of the posters on this site are stuck in the 70s anyway.

Your´re so right! I can´t stand people talking like this. The only thing they know, is the music of their glory days when they were in their twenties.
There is so much great music out there, go for it!

I suspect that young people today think that our (old) music is crap.

A few days ago I was in a café to get a quick fix of caffeine and I heard this playing on the P.A. :
The barely legal waitress let me know it was her choice and her playlist... So I'd tend to think bad music will always overwhelm good music and disco crap from the 80's can prevent young people from discovering good contemporary music.

Exactly.
Go see bands at your local pub and let them surprise you. Stop listening to the same sjit in the radio.
Well that's a good point. Greta Van Fleet, for instance, might be young and new but they aren't really modern...they're decidedly retro in sound.Quote

I agree, but just because most of these bands are new, I wouldn't call it "Modern" music. I guess we have to define what modern music is. To me it is different than "New" music.

Great live music everywhere, just none on the radio
