Best crowd appreciation I have ever heard for a Stones support act.

Best support act ever, though I’ve admittedly long been a fan of his. Thought he was even better in Edinburgh than in Manchester.

I agree Beast. In Manchester he seemed to be trying too hard to impress his home crowd. I thought he was much more relaxed in Edinburgh. Unfortunately I missed the 3rd and 2nd last songs as I went to security to ask if they could deal with some drunken antisocial idiots in our seated section. But I could still hear him (though not see him) even then and he sounded very good indeed.

I was looking forward to hear Ashcroft in Manchester and Edinburgh but I didn't like him that much as I did Kaleo last year!

I loved Ashcroft's set but the opening act who impressed me the most is Cage And The Elephant last year in Paris. I liked Ashcroft much better than Gallagher, though.

Cage the Elephant supported all 3 Paris shows last year. Imho, The lead singer's a bit of a Jagger wannabe and at the 3rd show he crowdsurfed, which, being in GC I saw at close hand. Security were NOT happy !

AC/DC, Guns'n'Roses and Metallica might have gotten a pretty warm welcome as well?

Not an Ashcroft fan at all, but he was absolutely terrific.
Don’t understand the praise for Cage The Elephant though. To me it was pretty pathetic. His stage antics were laughable and cliché. If I didn’t have pit tickets I would have arrived later for Paris II & III after seeing them the first night.

After Coventry, my sister, who previously knew little about the Stones but enjoyed the show a lot said they ARE the definitive original Rock and ROll. She's been telling all her work colleagues about being in the Pit and hugely impressing them

Only really knew Bittersweet Symphony from The Verve over here in the US, but he put on a good show in Manchester... always nice to see the connection between an act and their local crowd.

On Wednesday the 6th, Ashcroft's band was on the train with me from Manchester Piccadilly back to London Euston. I first noticed the guitarist with the dreads as I stopped to wait along the wall opposite our platform, then realized the other guitar player was kneeling and munching on some food... I told him "Good gig last night" and he shook my hand and said "Thanks" so I left them to their chit-chat. I recognized the drummer with them also, but can't remember the bassist so I don't know if he was there also...

Cool little moment that just added to my great week on the road with The Rolling Stones!!

I stood next to Richard at the airport. He was easily noticeable with his signature sunglasses look. I didn't bother him though.

Don't think The Verve were that big in Canada apart from Bittersweet, which is the only song of theirs I know. Just like Robbie Williams or Kylie Minogue, huge everywhere but North America.

yes. Jet was not good. But before that was a spanish band who where great.

Yeah, he was really good at Murrayfield. Good support act indeed. J geils Band and George Thoroughgood still the Best support act (1982) of the Stones, IMO.

He has a V Good voice and his band is also V Good.

Unfortunately for me I just don`t particularly like the songs they sing.
I would not pay for a ticket to see him as a solo act.

I honestly don`t think they are the best support band by a long shot.

As others have mentioned ....

ACDC , Guns N Roses, Tina Turner , Van Morrison , The J. Geils Band , Martha & the Vandellas, Robert Cray, Foo Fighters, Buddy Guy,The Pretenders,The White Stripes, Simple Minds, Primal Scream,Paolo Nutini, Seasick Steve.

To name but a few I would prefer to spend my time with.

The biggest surprise from the past for me was Simple Minds in Stuttgart (don`t remember the year ?) I expected them to get a cool reception but the audience was really rocking with them .

Edinburgh, 2 dreams in one gig. I absolutely adore Richard. I am greatful that I could see him performing before my ultimate favourite band

I misread that as 'tax difficulties' and got an unpleasant flashback to the 1998 tour.
