How in the world does Keith mess up the the very simple intro to SMU? You'll never convince me that it's stage freight. But yikes, that was pretty nasty.

And Keith missing the intro... Always with SMU in a show opener... They shouldn't do SMU as an opener! It reminds me Hyde Park 1 & 2

Now do you believe me when i say he does it on purpose when its an opener winking smiley
He never does that when its later in the set. Keith just doesn't like it as an opener lol, see Mick turn his head away haha i love it.

Looks like the Scots know how to drink party and enjoy a rock and roll show, what an atmosphere, respect.

Looks like walking on stage and playing is now too much for Keith ....

There is no way on this Earth that Keith is making a mistake on the opening chord of SMU...as someone who often plays this on guitar, it is one of the easiest riffs to play...Happy is far harder (still easy in guitar playing terms). He clearly does it to annoy someone, most likely Mick. Maybe we should all ask the question on the next keith questions on his web site.

He does it to give the chicken coop/peanut gallery and whiners something to squawk/grumble and whine about.

and that is my 3 post (when no live feeds) limit ...

Keith never makes a strong intro to start a show anymore.

Jumpin' Jack Flash sounds like Limpin' Jack Flash.

Start Me Up is Mess Me Up.

But it doesn't matter.

Once the band kicks in, he's covered.

And the crowd gets into it.

Overall, the show is still good, and so is Keith.

Yep i try to make these intro mistakes on SMU with my guitar and its near impossible to do with the sort of consistency that Keith does it.
He is a stubborn man and his sending a message to Mick for sure.
Bet he plays a great show tonight, its got nothing to do with his form, he's playing great but he just doesn't want to open with SMU.

But he signs off on the set list before every show.

Why would you believe he's punking out Mick, like an obstinate 15 year old?

Why now, after playing SMU live all these years to perfection?

It's a dexterity issue.

If the original studio version of SMU had that intro, no one would want to listen to it more than once.

It would never have been a hit.

I'm missing The Worst, pity it looks like Keith got put off of that one because the audience didn't know it well in Dublin or London 2 and therefor didn't respond to Keith's liking.

It's not well known - glad I got to hear it at London 2, but the crowd round me mostly didn't react to it and there was almost a sigh of relief when Happy came up as his second song. As you say, it looks like he has given up on it.

Impressive setlist so far. They finally got rid of that 65 years old new song.

Since Keith has abandoned The Worst and Slipping Away, no more latter day original tunes in the set - kind of sad.
The most recent original tune is Start Me Up, and unfortunately it gets butchered... confused smiley

Keith has stated in many interviews that he lets Mick choose the songs they play, he said i can't make Mick sing songs he doesn't want to sing.
But this is different Stonehearted, he doesn't mind playing Start Me Up each night, but he wants it later in the set.
He just signs what songs are played, what order they come in is a different matter.
Keith clearly loves opening with JJF or SFM.
The way Mick reacted, you could see he knew Keith did it on purpose grinning smiley
So blatant.
