I hope that more dates are added. I am not sure what kind of demand there is out there for this Byrd's Sweetheart tour. Are these guys in good enough health to do a 20 date tour? We shall find out. Sweetheart of the Rodeo was one of my favorite albums but I have heard the tunes so many times it is worn out for me.

The dates announced so far are small venues.

Sweetheart of the Rodeo Tour
July 24 – Los Angeles, CA @ Ace Hotel
July 29 – Saratoga, CA @ Mountain Winery
September 18 – Albany, NY @ Hart Theater
September 20 – Hopewell, VA @ Beacon Theatre
October 3 – Akron, OH @ Akron Civic

Where is Hopewell Virginia? About 20 miles south of Richmond.

Last year my wife and I were on an Ethiopian Airlines flight. On their entertainment system was Sweetheart of the Rodeo. It had been so many years since I had listened to it. I think I ran through it 3 times. It is such a great album.

The Beacon in Hopewell is a beautiful little venue, it has been brought back to life by a dedicated group of citizens who managed to bring the City council onboard to resuscitate a once derelict theatre.
I saw Robert Cray there a couple of years ago, well worth a visit.

Crosby, who actually owns the rights to the use of the name "Byrds" has been trying to talk McGuinn into doing a reunion for years. Hillman's always been onboard with the idea, and he's appearing at some of David's upcoming "Crosby and Friends" shows, including the one at Tanglewood in a couple of weeks. Maybe that's what finally lit a fire under McGuinn about doing some Byrds shows, though, of course, he's cleverly figured out how to do them without Crosby by featuring an album David isn't on. Oh, well. It's better than nothing. I'll take this for now, and hope for full-on Byrds and Buffalo Springfield tours in the future.

Marty Stuart is truly fabulous...

"McGuinn and Hillman will also appear onstage together during Marty Stuart's Late Night Jam at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on Wednesday; Stuart performs live with a 1954 Fender Telecaster previously owned by guitarist Clarence White, who played on Sweetheart of the Rodeo."

Stuart's guitars also include 'Clarence', the familiar two-tone Fender Telecaster, once owned by Clarence White. This instrument, either a '54 or '56 (different sources) is the original B-Bender guitar, built by White and Gene Parsons around 1967, designed to allow the guitarist to manually raise the guitar's 'B' string one whole step to play pedal steel style licks. Stuart bought this unique guitar in 1980 from White's widow.

From Juli Thanki of The Tennessean's review of Marty Stuart's Late Night Jam at The Ryman, 6/6:

George Walker IV

McGuinn and Hillman are touring with Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives this summer, which made their five-song set feel a little like a dry run for those upcoming shows. But what a glorious-sounding run it was, with two songs from landmark 1968 LP “Sweetheart of the Rodeo" and jangly gems “My Back Pages,” “So You Wanna Be a Rock ‘n’ Roll Star” and “Turn! Turn! Turn!” Through it all, Stuart played former Byrd Clarence White’s battered Telecaster.

Got my ticket for Akron. Middle of the first row in the balcony. Looks like a beautiful venue. Big old movie palace built in the 1920s that seats around 2500. I'm surprised how excited I am about this, considering that it's a three-hour drive, alone, since my wife has zero interest in going, and considering that when I did see the McGuinn-Hillman Band, back in 1981, I thought they put on a very weak performance. A solo acoustic McGuinn show I saw the following year was actually a much more satisfying experience.
