As we used to say back in the day, "Far out, man, far out". I think he had a brownie in honor of Red.

Amusing reference, Terry. Thank you for sharing the article, dmay. I read the book last year. I liked it. Much like the article, there isn't a lot about The Monkees. Nesmith is hard on himself, but he's also pretentious and funny in turns. He's a goofball who earned (and, as Terry alluded, inherited) the right to indulge himself. His return to touring and recording with his old bandmates since Davy Jones died is interesting to say the least.

My father, a country music fan, used to play a Mike Nesmith
album all the time in the mid-70s, in the car on 8-track.

Nesmith was the natural musician of the Monkees.

As an actor, Micky Dolenz was a natural, and talented.

In 1965, he was in 3 episodes of the U.S. nighttime soap Peyton Place (as Kitch Brunner), where he drugs someone's
drink in a teen club and subsequently beats him up. Dolenz was very convincing as a menacing, rough character.

You have to love these guys. I still think Dolenz had one of the best rock and roll vocals.

That sounds like a great show!

Nice to see that they did "St. Matthew," a real favorite of mine with it's Nashville wall-of-sound.

That's a great setlist if you're a Nesmith fan. Glad you were there.

Funny thing is, I didn't know probably six songs in the set (mostly the Nesmith solo/National Band stuff), but the band was so good it didn't matter. I wasn't even particularly familiar with the opener (Good Clean Fun from "The Monkees Present"), but it worked really well.

As Micky said in the article I linked, "I've learned over the years that once the audience knows they are getting those hits they will listen to just about anything else."

They not only listen to those unfamiliar songs, but enjoy them too!

Wow, this IS quite the set-list. Boy, I am going to have to take a look at their touring schedule and see if they are gonna be playing anywhere near me because for me Dolenz and (especially) Nesmith did the best stuff. I really like Mike's contributions to the Headquarters album.

After all these years, just learned that Michael Nesmith wrote Different Drum.
He was always my favorite Monkee watching the tv show back in the day.
