At one point Mick said something along the lines of "so there are both skates and scummers in the stadium tonight" making reference to Southampton and Portsmouth nicknames for each other.

Indeed, and the usual suspects have a remarkably hard time giving credit to the great versions – like Street Fighting Man in London, The Worst in Dublin, Fool To Cry in London, Sweet Virginia in Southampton.

I guess it's more fun to highlight the few poor moments your favourite band give you...

All this while trainwrecks from 69-73 never get a mention, of course smoking smiley

Sweet Virginia was a thing of beauty last night. 1st time live in my presence on my 30th lifetime Stones show. I arrived in the area just as they were soundchecking it and at that point I knew it was coming.

If you're from Europe you'll be redirected to [Store.DigitalStores.co.uk] and the Southampton-Merch wasn't there until 30th May afternoon. But you could see the T-Shirt & Poster at [TheRollingStonesShop.com] via an US-Proxy-Server.

DP we speak about bum notes, here on purpose (Keith is a rebel), and erased on the official material, that's all.

I do not comment concerts anymore.

Concerning SMU , Keith no longer likes this as an opener so he makes a mess of the intro on purpose to send a message, he has done this before on the second both Hyde Park gigs in 2013.

Love Keith for it, who gives a shit about one bum note anyway, go play the record if you want perfection, this is the Stones live, mistakes are part of their charm, they all make mistakes all the time, so what.

Well the first mistake at Hyde Park might have been a genuine mistake, but the second ?? come on no way, that was deliberate lol.

In answswer to Powerage78, i doubt very much Keith has any influence over the final cut on the DVD release.
But of course he knew Mick and the engineers would clear up his mistake ( on purpose ) winking smiley

Hey powerage its nice to have you back .smiling smiley

They shouldn’t open with SMU.
Since Hyde Park, everytime they opened with it, Keith got it wrong.

Hyde Park I, Hyde Park II and if I remember correctly Berlin 2014. This is now the 4th time that I know of.

One thing does niggle me a bit on here, it just takes one mistake from Keith to get the haters going over the top about it, most who were at the show last night commented that Keith played great again, from what i have heard on youtube he certainly played well. Ok a few bum notes but that's all.
(No one can say Keith hasn't improved over last year, i'm enjoying listening to him again without cringing, credit where credit is due.) Ronnie can butcher three solo's in a row and look a complete knob while doing it and that's excepted, Mick can sing in the wrong key, forget words , intro's and whole verses and that's excepted.

So why the double standards with Keith, and as for Charlie its totally inescapable to criticize him as i found out last week.

These boys are rocking their arses off as best they can and the mistakes will diminish as the tour goes along, lets keep things in perspective, this is good, this is better than we imagined, Mick is on fire and singing great, really great in fact, better than in decades, Ronnie is rocking and plying more throughout, complementing Keith really well, Charlie has picked up the pace again and looks to be enjoying his playing more since Dublin, its all good folks.

And yet, funny enough he hardly ever makes a mistake on the intro to SMU when its played further into the set, i rest my case winking smiley

And yes i agree BowieStone, it should be dropped as an opener, so many better choices to open with this year.

Yes, but it’s not deliberate. If he doesn’t like it at that spot, he should tell Mick. He’ll change it, no problem. Mick wants to enter with an enthousiastic crowd, not a laughing or confused crowd.

It’s just a bit of nerves at the beginning of a show.
Other than that, I’m pretty impressed with Keith this tour.
He’s come a long way.

I can hardly sit down, what with all these horseshoes up my arse. First, the weather cleared beautifully! Then my Lucky Dips landed me in Pit B. Then the boys were on their game! Sweet Virginia was a treat, and it was just a great night. AND, when my hotel seemed buggered up beyond redemption, it turns out one of the staff is an IORR lurker and sorted it brilliantly. Happy, happy, happy!

Lol, IORRians everywhere! grinning smiley

Cheers, STG!

Thanks for all your pics, Cristiano!

In all seriousness you are probably right, it's just nerves, although i just tried to make such a mistake with my guitar just now and its really quite difficult, makes me wonder.
You try it lol.
I think Keith might have been put off by the lack of volume on his guitar on his opening chord, not the volume we expect, did he momentarily think he had no feed, it was definitely wavering and fluctuating at the start of SMU, i thought the sound was poor on the youtube clips.

Yeah BowieStone he has improved and so has Mick and Ronnie, Mick is just blowing me away, he seems more energetic and his vocals are so strong, i can't actually take in how good he is, Mick has perfected his art and is still improving, a lot of his movements this year are more natural and have an unrehearsed feel to them, just incredible i have to say.

This is a different video of SMU to discuss the quality of the intro

[youtu.be]

Listened to the beginning which is obviously a train wreck, and once Keith derails it there's not much chance in saving it -sounds like Charlie fell over his drum set. Even Mick seems confused, and not until his first "Start Me Up" does the tune become recognizable. As for the rest of the tune, didn't listen as it's never been a favorite of mine, but I assume it sounded OK for those who were there?
