Gregory Porter is a favourite of mine. A class act.

I like his voice, but that hat is a wee bit silly.

I don't mind the hat. I like him. I like his style. His aura. And his voice of course. Don't let details destroy the overall picture.

I know: point taken. For many years I refused to listen to Elton John, as I thought the ridiculous costumes, glasses, outsized Versace diamond-encrusted track suits etc detracted from his music. Thankfully, when I heard some Bernie Taupin written stuff on a Willie Nelson album, and the video of I Want Love, I got into Elton.

I thought he wore the hat because of scars, fireburn-marks, or something?

Dear Mister Dandelion

jazzweekly.com/

look at the final question of this interview

Last, but not least, what’s with the ubiquitous hat?

Laughs. I’ve had some surgery on my skin, so this has been my look for a little while and will continue to be for awhile longer. People recognize me by it now. It is what it is.

PS I just realized that you pseudo is with powder nor power. For a long time, I may have been confused with with a kind of superhero winking smiley

I haven´t found any info on that after a quick search.
I vaguely remember a radio interview saying that he was homeless for a while or maybe singing in the street, and the hat was a kind a reminder of poor times.
