i always like ronnie's deconstructed solos on SMU, and this one is
no exception. bet it sounds cool to not just me in proper quality

I think Ronnie's gone from the sublime to the ridiculous on this solo.

and back again. that's what i think i mean by "deconstructed". always
teetering on the edge of disaster. fun. like sonic youth or something.
but not gloomy. not that i know very much about sonic youth

SMU. Mick forgets the words and i don't have words to describe Ronnie's solo.

The sound is too muddled in that vid to judge.

Tempo seemed OK.

So this tour Ronnie and Mick are the weak links, but Keith is OK?

Haven't heard any complaints about Keith in this thread, which is great.

Last tour he had me worried.

The show length might have something to do with traffic and logistic. As far as I know there are no trains running from Croke Park and many nearby streets have been closed off. 80,000 people are on their way home and most of them are probably going to work tomorrow morning.

"Lack of energy" and "lack of emotion" on last Barcelona gig? I could disagree more...

Not sure how this short 19 song show will help sell tickets at other poor selling venues - it might have a reverse effect w/some wishing for a refund.

Agree..last year opening show in Hamburg 22 songs

Opening with Sympathy:

Mick seems to be yelping more than singing after a couple of minutes- and Keith does hit a few clunkers.
What's most apparent to me is the vast empty floor space, and the lack of impact this tune has as an openner - especially in daylight.
Never thought it worked well on the last leg either, but this has hit a new low.

one of the reasons for doing the woo-woos right off the bat is to
get a feel for the crowd. not good. so he cuts off the woo-woos quickly.

uh-oh. the band's onstage and it might not be one of those nights

can someone report on how the crowd was? it doesn't look very energetic from the videos I've seen so far but I guess you can't really judge unless you were there in person.

That video has only thumbs up, none down.

The only negative comment was about the crowd: "Wild crowd"

Hairball: That "vast empty floor space" is Golden Circle. And it has often been like this on many shows since 2014, that the GA area is crammed with people, whilst golden circle often has much available space.

But I think the angle is fooling you a bit on this one. If you look at this video, there isn't much empty floor space left at all:

Stop complaining about the set list. The Stones have not been in Ireland since 2007. It's 11 years since the warhorses were last performed in this country. And I doubt that too many from Ireland have travelled to see The Stones abroad since then as well. The band is there to entertain those inside Croke Park, not people pressing F5 online in a vain hope to see the name of a an obscure song appear on their screen. I think we can expect a few changes in England (and London in particular).

Having said that, I was a bit surprised that they didn't have more "rarities" since this was an opening show and they have rehearsed many gems + that Opie publicly stated that this would be the longest show on the entire tour.

thumbs up

have noticed on recent tours the setlists tend to shrink as the tour goes on. starting at 19 not a good sign.

This was my first thought as I read the setlist upon waking up this morning (Sydney time). Is a 16-17 song setlist on the cards by the time this tour ends?

No it's not the angle - that space was wide open in the Sympathy video you posted.
The video you're showing now is Miss You which is further down the setlist, and looks like that space is more filled up - seems alot of people missed the opening tune stuck in traffic and beer lines?

Yes it's just me. IMHO Elvi's Vegas era was much more honest than this wasted group.
Just hear Hampton, even Tokyo 1990, even 1997 and 1999.........The only amazing thing is the spectacular decline in the guitar section
Rolling Sones music is based in KR guitar. Now wguitar playing is just a joke, below beginner level in many, too much times
In spanish, una tomadura de pelo y un abuso

They must get really bored playing the same stuff all the time.Maybe they just can't be bothered to rehearse anything new.Auto pilot is easy.Sadly it is very boring for serious fans. And looking at the empty spaces in the stadium,it appears the hordes of fans have stayed away.Maybe it was the predictability of the set or just the ridiculous prices.Sad.

Maybe but they are old and it's a treat (for them and us) to have them out there in any capacity. The frustrating thing is all the songs they DO rehearse but never make it into the set.

I don't think guys in their mid 70's are ever on auto pilot and if you consider it auto pilot, fine. I can promise you it ain't easy for them.

Setlist aside they sound great. Mistakes and all they are jamming and playing with an edge. Keith and Ronnie sound good to me, bass is nice and loud, keys are lower in my mixes. Back to the setlist, this is a big job they undertake, they need order and to be deep in a comfort zone. A concert is not for YOUTUBE but for the people there for likely a rare experience. This is hard to do on this level. Listening to Keith's solo on HTW now sounds great, oh Chuck just did the foot move ........ Long live the Rolling Stones..
