and the audiobook is one wonderful bedtime story after another, for a year
narrated by Keith himself, Johnny Depp, and Joe Hurley
Keith is the best of course. Johnny Depp gives a surprisingly "flat"
or "objective" reading, which works i think only because he is doing
the straight-forward earnest music-only early Keith. but i'm glad
they chose Joe Hurley to do the high-flying and crash-landing parts.
hurley gives an interpretive reading, like a one-man show. purists might
object, but not me
Joe Hurley is a singer, songwriter, actor, playwright and voice-over artist.
He leads the critically lauded bands Joe Hurley & The Gents and Joe Hurley & Rogue's March.
what the audiobook opened up for me (this is my second listening, after my
initial reading) is the purely musical way Keith interacts with his world.
not just rhythmically, which is what you first notice with the audiobook,
but melodically too, as if he is interacting with reality the same way he
interacts with charlie or ronnie or the audience. He exchanges energy with
everything around him, always trying to find the right groove...
this is why its a good idea for him to keep good people around him LOL
