Saw him and the Blockheads 40 years ago when they were warming up for Lou Reed on the Street Hassle tour in Passaic, NJ. An interesting evening.

I read that Lou Reed was not pleased with Ian because he was upstaging him (Lou)............

I read that Lou Reed was not pleased with Ian because he was upstaging him (Lou)............

And Lou didn't like being anything less than the center of attention. He was known to remix albums at the eleventh hour to turn himself up and his bandmates down (see 3rd VU album and Legendary Hearts). And of course he fired John Cale

Ian did his act with the limp and the props and the thick accent, while the Blockheads were a polished machine. Their set focused on New Boots and Panties. Then Lou did his gay comedian schtick (see Take No Prisoners) in red leather pants and played most of Street Hassle. We got a few VU faves in the encores.
