Yeah, I get that.

But it was perhaps more a case of both bands dabbling in the vibe of the time .
The Kinks sort of then stuck with it ... but the Stones moved on to even stranger things with TSMR before reverting to their roots with BB.

Yes. I was going to say the same thing. That was the sound in the air at the time. The whole "Between The Buttons was the Stones doing the Kinks" is not correct because it gives the Kinks way too much credit. (or blame, depending how you view the album)

Exile. It is totally unique in their catalogue. First I didnt get it and then suddenly i loved it.

I'd say the last Stones album that's all covers. I never even bought that one. Keith's last solo album was much better. I do hope the Stones can punch out one last great studio offering.
