this is taken from the film Running Out Of Luck. I love this film but didn't watch it for quite a while. I think it is only available on VHS.

I think Jerry's acting is pretty good in that vid.

And her strong almost fierce presence, when she's not smiling or
being seductive, makes it easy to see why Mick was so deeply attached to her.
he likes them strong, that's for sure

and i think, h95, that the music vids from Running Out of Luck
are slightly different from the full movie. A little more lip-syncing footage
and a little less dramatic action

Actually I just mentioned it because someone brought up leg-locks in a thread. I think it was Revvy who posted the lyrics.

Personally, I'd say the best part is "Scales have just fell from my eyes/You can't keep up your disguise."

It's one of those songs that seems like it was wasted in the hands of talented musicians who did not produce a great result in combination with Mick.

It goes on a bit (the awful "bad, bad, bad"), but there's the kernel of a good song in there that might have turned out better.

I believe Lem was the first one to note that it's Mick's "All About You" on here a number of years back.

As for the video, it was interesting. I always wonder if Mick was thinking of a certain horse-breeder when he scripted it with Mr. Temple.

i think its one of his best word barrages...

They say that you're really not so prim and prude
Behind it all you're rather rude
And really go for younger men
Italian types and lots of them

You've been going downtown slave romancing
Nasty, mean and fancy dancing
With your nose in plastic bags
People talk and tongues all wag

you're the mistress of a mafia man
Who's working for the Vatican
And all your money crisply ironed
in off-shore banks, Your friends are wired

I can't believe it baby
Maybe its true !

(really, rocky, just for the leg-lock thing? that's
kinda amazing since the entire song/vid is so relevant
to what was being discussed in that thread. You know,
the whole gossip thing, and when does gossip become
biography?)

I think the lyrics are basically about...himself. In one way or another...

The lyrics are scintillating
I think it’s a look at the cosmopolitan level at the time,
which hasn’t seemed to change much
The opening of Mick cringing from a headline is priceless
that it is from 1985
and still relevant/same subject 2018.
And now Jerry Hall is married to the media owner of nearly all.

Just saw a clip of Mick shimming 2017 No Filter
He looks more masculine and handsome now, dare I say.

CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE ROLLING STONES IN ENGLAND!

Well, leg-lock was said in reference to two individuals who are not to be mentioned apparently. When I think of two reasonably attractive women doing leg wrestling, I think of the scene in this music video. I was only 15 when RUNNING OUT OF LUCK was released on VHS. The scene left as much of an imprint as Rae Dawn Chong during "Hard Woman" or her ingenious way of breaking Mick out of jail later in the film.

While I understand your point that the lyrics have relevance on a near meta- level to the current climate on IORR, I'll not dig further unless I'm feeling lucky.

As for when does gossip become biography? The answer is easy. When discussing it publicly no longer impacts people. Sometimes there are open secrets that everyone knows, but if you try to state them publicly, the sharks will circle. While that may be an exaggeration here, the result is largely the same. EXILE ON IORR STREET.

Rae Dawn Chong on "Just another night"

electric robot Jerry Hall on "hard Woman", another solo masterpiece
and peak inside Mick's real life, not the fictional version everybody believes

I gave her laughter, she wanted diamonds
I was romantic, she treated my cruelly
Where is the mercy, where is the love?

"Gossip become biography? When discussing it no longer impacts people"

Not a bad rule of thumb, but my answer would be (even if it impacts
people) the same as Judge Judy's "the preponderance of the evidence"

Excerpted from an interview with Philip Norman,
arguably Mick's most serious biographer:

"L'Wren Scott is the tallest of his women.
He picks out very tall women. Quite a few
of them were stronger than him and used to
beat him around as well. I mean, he hasn't
been the dominant figure in the relationships.
Two or three of his girlfriends used to give
him a wallop, as one of the band described it
to me, if Mick got out of line. People are
always quite surprised when they see L'Wren
berating him in front of others."

Gossip or biography?

(i myself have not said one word about L'Wren Scott.
please do not say even one word about L'Wren Scott.
i think its okay to quote people who knew her, but
not to give any personal opinion except that she is
obviously deserving of canonization)

Honestly,
the lyrics were written so well it prompted me to find out more,
hence I posted the video
thought it funny about the news headlines involving cringes ironic 35 years later
(plus I do heart Jerry Hall) I know I’ve seen this old 80’s movie
but I do not go back and see things twice/ repeat
I prefer to keep with present day, or only go back to learn something new
I’m innocent (consciously)

So I will now sign off this thread I started

P.S.
Jagger biographies are shite.

OMG, are you right!

At the 30 second mark of the vid, the newspaper headline reads
"My Revenge Affair with Racing Millionaire". It is the actual
story from the News Of The World from Feb 85 about jerry's affair
with Sangster...

The one during which she famously said "Oh he could buy and sell Mick
ten times over"

the one during which he cried and cried to her over the phone until she
relented and came back to him

I'll bet lol Jerry never noticed that in the film. I certainly never did
til just now.

gossip becomes biography becomes "fictional" music video. so cool.

the absolutely best moment in the vid is at the end, when Jerry gleefully
blows away the politician and then immediately and calmly cuddles the little
puppy while flirting with the camera/the viewer

nerves of steel

eat your heart out, tarantino

Hard woman to please, yes she is
Hard woman, tough cookie
I got to say goodbye

Alone at last and something inside of me knows
I could have loved in vain for a thousand years
I have to let her go

How can I say goodbye to my baby?
How can I say goodbye to my baby?
So long, honey

Not that it had anything going for it to begin with, but WOW this has not aged well at all.
Seems he was going for a Michael Jackson Thriller type extended video w/storyline...fail.

"This" was what Mick did, not to break up the Stones, but to occupy
himself while the Stones were already broken

believe it or not, one consistent part of mick's solo work has been self-
sacrificial, that is, Mick has known with each solo outing that the net
effect would be to make people miss the Stones more

hate for mick has always translated into more love for keith and the stones,
and the notion that mick doesnt know this is hilarious

this has never been more clear than with that fake Lost/Grip publicity stunt

at least She's The Boss was great pop music

Stones broken or not, the CBS contract called for 5 releases, one of them being a Mick Jagger solo album and possibly a 2nd if they needed to fulfill the contract. Instead of fixing the Stones, Mick went and chose to see if he can go without the Stones. After She's the Boss he should had concentrated on putting an effort into the Dirty Work album. He chose not to and decided to split time between Primitive Cool and Dirty Work because the Rolling Stones contract needed Rolling Stones releases. He put his efforts first and 2 of the first 3 releases on a Stones contract were Solo Mick. I like Mick better than Keith. Overall I prefer his solo efforts ( mostly the 3rd & 4th) but it was Mick that broke things and put himself before the Stones. Keith puts out a solo album that if you had to choose between both She's the Boss & Primitive Cool versus Talk is Cheap, Shiiiit Keith wins hands down and then all of a sudden we get Steel Wheels. In the end we lost out on what Dirty Work could have been and completely lost an album that should had been before Steel Wheels.

Re: 1985 video Mick Jagger ‘Secrets’

nick, i don't doubt the contractual details you have cited, and what you say
causes me to make an addendum...

so yes i still say that all his solo efforts have been to one extent or
another designed to make people miss the kind of music keith makes,,,

but they have also certainly been designed to scare keith straight,
to let him know that mick does have alternatives if keith continues to be
mean to him

to bring it around to the topic at hand, what mick is doing as a solo is
very similar to what he does with his love relationships generally and
certainly with jerry, whom he adored but who could be kinda mean to him

so he would find, on the side, someone who was less mean to him, and then
go with the flow, always wanting things to work out with jerry and keith,
but exploring alternatives in case they didnt. this strategy has been
generally successful. mick and jerry's passion endured for over 15 years,
not despite his cheating, but because of it

(i watched an interview with charlie a couple weeks ago. the interviewer
asked him about mick and keith and why are they so hard on each other, and
charlie immediately answered "its keith thats hard on mick" and then changed
the subject)

You look at it from an esoteric point of view of Mick while I'm hitting from the consumer/ brand side of things. At the time I was very much into this She's the Boss thing. It was all we had. The Live Aid set was exciting yet disappointing seeing Keith and Ronnie sidestage for what could had happened. Primitive Cool was clearly representative of meeting the contractual obligations as opposed to Keith being the one that actually scared Mick of what having a successful solo career could be. While I love Steel Wheels, it does seem like it was a way to suppress Keith from continuing on what a successful album and tour he had. Whatever perspective we look at it from, it's the Stones fan that lost out.

Perhaps. But it is surely possible that nothing good could have come out
of Mick and Keith trying to work together closely during those super-tense times.

Sometimes one finds oneself in a relationship where you only have two choices:
End it permanently or just stop talking and get away from each for a while and
see how things shake out over time.

When did they not work together for six years? I'm guessing you mean because they didn't tour 1983-1988. They still recorded two studio albums during that period. Heck in the years since, I would be thrilled if they had made two studio albums every six years. We would have had another five Rolling Stones albums by that reckoning.

Sure, if you count Dirty Work... Still, it was a long break. And they weren't retired citizens then. They were closing in on 40. Only 2 years away from their latest hit (SMU).

While I understand not liking DIRTY WORK (or any album, objectively), it is a Stones album. That said, I agree Mick's first two solo albums were achieved at the expense of Stones tours for UNDERCOVER and DIRTY WORK, though. I know Mick has a point they likely wouldn't have been good tours and the band might have split up as a consequence. It's also easy for me to set aside the band's collective abuse of drugs & alcohol and in-fighting and look at the period as a consequence of Mick and Keith no longer following the same vision. Working apart is the logical outcome. Since neither could achieve the same success as solo artists, we're fortunate they were willing to continue to work together to the extent that they have. The result is many hundreds of concerts and half a dozen album over the past thirty-some years.

Okey, but I'm not sure that I will buy the version that says they were all done in 1983 and Mick h-a-d to break free in order for them to straighten up.
I think it had more to do with the fact that Mick was offered big money to go solo. Maybe Mick thought they (the band) were old and passé and he himself
wanted to catch up with the times in order not to look old? Probably so...

And the aber is...when they came back in 1989 too many years had passed and they had become too old to change anything. They had become The Rolling Stones II. The click-track version...

I don't agree with the narrative that they were done in 1983 either. That's not the same thing as speculating a tour for UNDERCOVER or DIRTY WORK would not have gone well. Mick chose a solo career to not deal with the headaches of working with Keith and putting up with a band and for the obvious reason of ego.

The click-track version of the band starts with the UNDERCOVER sessions. The template for the STEEL WHEELS tour was Mick's solo tour. Those that wanted it loose and sloppy had the Winos and, briefly, Ronnie who was in terrific form with a tight band backing him in 1992 and 1993. I'm sorry Mick didn't play more with his WANDERING SPIRIT line-up as it's the only live solo Mick I think is terrific.

That said, I would rather have Stones albums than solo tours and I'd take more Stones albums or even solo albums than tours. Just my own selfish preference. I regret they were not more prolific during the last 35 years.

In hindsight; the lyrics on that song (and on the album) are shallow and self-centred. Are we supposed to feel sorry for the vagabond, millionaire womanizer? Bullocks...

I wasn't exactly hoping Micks solo career would take off because obviously i am a Stones fan and Mick's success would have ended the Stones.
But what really surprised me was that Mick's solo career was so unsuccessful, i mean the guy is MICK JAGGER, like David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Don Henley or Robert Plant , OK so his first solo album wasn't all that great, but it had some good melodies and Mick put a lot of effort into the videos.

I'm actually thinking now that what failed Mick could have been other Stones fans like me staying loyal to the Stones

Feel sorry for Mick , apart from a few diehards on here i don't suppose many do, why would we feel sorry for an incredibly successful genius singer songwriter who is a serial cheater even in his 70's.

I do however feel sorry for some of the women who have loved him.

Would we as men be any different if we were Mick, now that's a question we can't answer because we are not Mick and women don't come to us on a plate, lets face it these days you only have to have been in the Big Brother House or taken part in X Factor to have women queuing up, the temptations that must have come Micks way over years are possibly unparalleled.

Women are attracted to money fame and power, and Micks station in life gives him all three in abundance.
