No, I'm pretty sure what I am talking about and the RIAA equalization are two separate things.

Yeah - some Mastering Engineers simply cut off all frequencies below 20-40 Hz and above 20 kHz .... eye rolling smiley

I think it's probably something like this: An album was conceived as typically holding 22 minutes of music per side. But in 1948 they were probably considering classical music as the primary source which has much less low frequency content than say rock music and is skimpy on vinyl real estate.

So what about an artist that wants to put 25 minutes of hard rock on an album side filled with thumping bass? They had two main choices. They could lower the overall volume of the recording. That solves the real estate problem but at the expense of lower signal to noise ratio and dust and grime in the grooves would be more noticeable. The other option is to keep the same volume of recording but shave off some bass. That way you preserve the signal to noise ratio at the cost of losing some of the low end. I believe that more often than not the latter choice is what they did.

So, the longer you want to make the length of the side of an album, you have make a compromise on recording volume or the low end or some combination of both.

Like I said vinyl has it's limitations and these are the types of things that nobody would talk about because it's not good for business.

True. But for Bridges Vinyl used you pay around 100 Euro and VL is also not cheap. I wait for the 199 Euro sale for that package. Maybe then...

You answered your own question...
But it seems as if they won't bother to throw
the lyric sheet into which is odd.
My vinyl with uncensored cover from '78 got one...

Well your friends were very lucky to get it as $180...maybe there was a momentary glitch with pricing?
Had I seen it at that price would have been tempted, but at $450 not a chance.

"Sourced from original analogue master tapes" : it can mean anything... Exile on main St cut at half speed by Abbey Road studios was also "sourced from original master tapes" but the actual vinyl was made from the Steven Marcussen 2009 digital remaster. As a reminder : [www.analogplanet.com]

Well, everything that was originally recorded on analogue tape is one way or other "sourced from original analogue master tapes" even if an actual CD or LP is based on a heavily processed digitisation.

I just did a bit of googling. Tim Dalton, in "Album Rescue Series" p. 153, says that Steel Wheels was recorded digitally but the follow-up Voodoo Lounge was recorded on 24-track two inch (analogue) tape.

A kind of career-all-times-span greatest hits box set.

The 15 studio albums from 1971 on, including Blue and Lonesome. No doubt about it.

B&L WE all have, surely - it WAS a big seller.

Money grab....350 UK POUNDS???? = AUD $650 !!!! PLUS COURIER.... disappointing though not totally unexpected from the machine that is now the Stones.

Re Black & Blue:

"Black And Blue (1976)

Gatefold sleeve with original inner bag and lyric sheet"

LYRIC SHEET????? My original copy of Black and Blue has no lyric sheet...

They used to be a band...

So it is around 420 Euro. Too much?
Without looking at quality, here is my rough calculation.
If you don't own any of the vinyl and needed to buy all of them: then you would currently pay for all new/mint vinyls around 580 €. So get the box.
I own some of the vinyl but e.g. don't own: SW, VL, BTB, ABB. Those 4 would already add up to 380 €. But with the boys on tour money is short. I will wait till the price drops.

1. Sticky Fingers (1971) 28 €
2. Exile On Main Street (1972) 22 €
3. Goats Head Soup (1973) 16 €
4. It's Only Rock'n Roll (1974) 12 €
5. Black And Blue (1976) 12 €
6. Some Girls (1978) 20 €
7. Emotional Rescue (1980) 10 €
8. Tattoo You (1981) 12 €
9. Undercover (1983) 18 €
10. Dirty Work (1986) 19 €
11. Steel Wheels (1989) 12 €
12. Voodoo Lounge (1994) 100 €
13. Bridges to Babylon (1997) 185 €
14. A Bigger Bang (2005) 90 €
15. Blue & Lonesome (2016) 27 €

If you are really a fan of the Rolling Stones, you already got this vinyl and perhaps in several editions. That's why it looks expensive. They make money with the same old materials. That's a shame, there is so more stuffs in the vaults...

Very well calculated and the box is indeed worth the price if you do the math.
On the other side, most people do have the majority of the albums (or cd’s) and for sure everyone has the music so from that perspective, 500 euro is quite a lot.
VL, BTB and ABB are new pressings (polydor) and will not have the same value as the high prices as we see on Ebay.
So be careful if you pay big bucks on Ebay for these albums, make sure they are genuie first pressings so no polydor on the label or sleeve....

Obviously a box set of some kind.

The clip shows a box with a tongue on it.

Everyone knows the "new album" is on hold until 2019.

If indeed it ever happens at all.
