Then you must not have went to a show from this tour. I did, and they were incredible. It was the first time in forever they didn't played a gigantic stadium. For the Stones to player a smaller arena show, at that point in their career, made them seem 10 years younger and more engergetic. They were closer together and stage, and it made the sound even tighter. It was easy for them playing such a "small" show and they killed it. I've been dying for a DVD from this tour. Can't wait.

Of my 53 concerts since the '81 tour Stuttgart 1999 remains my favorite performance-wise. I'm really looking forward to this release. For some reason they seemed really on fire this year.

Saw both DC shows in March '99. For the second night, a friend and I snuck down to the floor about 25 rows back and were able to stay there for the entire show. Best seats I ever had for a Stones show, and the performance was aces too!

Saw both shows in Boston. To me the first night was really good, and the second night was pure magic with Get off my cloud on b stage. They screwed up YGMR the second night but it was still great. 2nd night in Boston to me was right up the first show in 2003 at london's Wembly arena. They'll always be a bar band regardless of the venue size and some nights are just pure magic. Really looking forward to this release

What I meant was with all the footage they have at their disposal someone decides that a 1999 show is what the world needs most? I am sure the show is perfectly fine but is it really the most interesting tape in the Stones archive ? How about a better quality Knebworth, or a 1970 show or the outtakes from CS Blues? Or even an official DVD release of 25 x 5 ?

Thank God they did not release what you name here but what they do!

I am super excited for this release. A couple of months ago I revisited the Toronto 99 bootleg after not hearing it for a few years and was stunned at how tight and on fire they sounded. Much like the absolutely brilliant Totally Stripped club shows, this will continue to prove that the band is at its best in a smaller venue.

....which isn't even true. MM was played first in Oakland Jan 25 and GS in Pittsburgh on March 11, but it´s not really that important.
But it would have been smarter to include either Thief in the night or You don't have to mean it instead of Gimme shelter.

Looking at the pre-order on US Amazon. A bit pricey but I’m sure it will drop. I’m going to order regardless. I only wish I would get the video and LP editions together. I’ll probably end up just going with the Blu-ray/CD edition.

Why does the Japanese market always seem to get extras?

This is really an interesting release.

Both shows were good.
A mix or more bonus stuff would have been even better to me.

Still remember all the talk about those gigs/recordings back in 99.
Looking forward to this and hope for a nice sound.

Exactly, that 1999 NS Tour really took everyone be surprise, both the timing and the format/venues. The timing was just because they needed to keep the show on the road to make up for the UK tax fiasco of 1998 but the smaller venues was a treat and something no one thought would happen again. Of course that's also what started the "expensive" tickets trend but that's for another thread ;-)

Because the Japanese BR/DVD/LP/CD stuff is very expensive and the Japanese would buy the cheaper imported versions instead. The bonuses are a justification for the higher prices in Japan.

Just ordered the DVD/SHM CDs from cdJapan also. They really do produce some great stuff - and SHM usually sounds fantastic. I was at the 2/11/99 show at the Anaheim Pond in CA and yeah - one of the best Stones shows of the 35 I've seen (Prague July 4th to be 36!). As I recall, it was just post Jerry Hall break up (?) and they just seemed pissed off - in a good way. Really looking forward to this one.

Coloured!!!

"The first pressing of the triple vinyl edition of the recently announced Rolling Stones No Security San Jose ’99 release will be on coloured vinyl.

As seen above, the records will be pressed on yellow, black and red vinyl. Also, for those in doubt, there is definitely no DVD with this edition.

For reasons that no one can work out, a Eagle Rock continue to offer a 2CD+blu-ray edition of these kinds of releases in America, but not in Europe. Crucially, SDE can confirm that the ‘SD blu-ray’ in this combo set is compatible with all regions (A, B, C), so importing is an option. As a rough guide, buying this edition from Amazon US with UK shipping and import deposit (i.e. the ‘all in’ price) is around £34. The 2CD+DVD price in the UK is about £20 at the moment.

Important: There is categorically no 2CD+blu-ray edition available outside of the US. Amazon UK are currently incorrectly listing a 2CD+blu-ray, but SDE can confirm that this is a standalone blu-ray and is currently a listing error. To avoid confusion there is no link to this version in the widget below, but for reference the INCORRECT UK listing is here."

We don't know what footage is at their disposal. I doubt they were filming shows in 1970. Unless it was for a movie or TV broadcast, there wasn't any reason to do this prior to the era where shows were being filmed for being relayed on the screens beside the stage (ie, 1981 onwards). Why would someone spend a lot of money filming concerts prior to the era of home video when there was no medium other than TV or cinema for releasing them (and the concept of releasing them decades later didn't exist). The San Jose shows were specifically filmed for a home video project that was eventually scrapped.

The Stones don't own the rights to @#$%& Blues - Robert Frank does - and the only footage from Knebworth was 'borrowed' from the BBC's raw news footage and bootlegged. And what has been circulated was all that the BBC filmed.
