I have family and friends who work on the strip in Vegas and have gone to visit and see the Stones at the mgm a few times.
I didn’t go to the t-mobile show because I quit going to see them live after the zip code tour but from what they tell me there was absolutely no buzz in town for these concerts.
Before it was “The Stones are in town!!”with people swapping stories about seeing the band around town and the usual excitement.
This time every casino host in town had fistfuls of tickets and were handing them out to even mid level players.
The Stones had just done desert trip where they were just good and didn’t stand out much from the other classic bands then embarrassed themselves by playing a trucking convention, this is what stand up comedians do not a group billing themselves as the live gold standard.tickets for $450 and $750 got people rolling their eyes.
Then before they left they played a birthday party for a good friend of the president.they may want to stick to a couple of shows in the major markets because I’ve got a feeling the states aren’t the cash cow they once were.

Lots of truth here.

Tickets were still readily available the day of the show at the box office, and stubhub was selling floor seats at a 70% discount.
The Stones at Desert Trip were OK (especially wkd. 2), but they were the 4th best at those shows after Neil, the Who, and Roger Waters (Dylan was great but in a massive festival setting a bit out of his element imo).
To see the Stones play a private show after Vegas was like a kick in the teeth for many who were hoping the would reschedule the first cancelled Vegas show.

If they come back to the States, they might want to stick with arenas and rethink their pricing strategy as hardly anybody is ready and willing to pay an arm and a leg anymore.

One wonders what 2012 till now would have looked like had they not broke off with Michael Cohl.

As much focus is placed on the frigid relationship between Mick and Keith during the four years off the road, I wonder if it was actually a conscious decision to sit out the remainder of their contract with Cohl so he could not negotiate on their behalf. If so, not being forced to maintain a working relationship with one another during those years could very well have exacerbated Keith shooting his mouth off to the levels it reached at the time of LIFE. His powerlessness to get the band moving certainly added to it. We'll likely never know for certain.

There are unsubstantiated murmurings that the terms of reuniting in 2012 cost one of the Twins his near equal role in all matters legally and that he keeps up his end publicly for appearances only. This may be gross exaggeration of course, but there was a blind item about it when the snip comment came and went. I'm always fascinated with the business end as much as the creative. If Matt Clifford really comes off with multiple songwriting credits on the new album (as his publisher's press release suggests), I'll suspect there's something to it all.

As always "it's all out of focus, nothing is revealed."

I think, they would definitely need to change the setlist issue. I do not think, people want to here the same old warhorses over and over again. So, if there is no new material, then go for the back catalogue and after one or two shows everybody will talk about what rarities the Stones presented. We all saw how well the Blue And Lonesome album worked, though it was not new material.

Didn't Mick mention during the HBO show in '03 that this wasn't the last time the Stones would play in the then called Madison Square Garden? If my count is correct, the next time they play at that address in the City is No. 25.

Might be misunderstanding your post (?), but it's still called Madison Square Garden, and the Stones played there in 2006 and 2012.

I thought the name of the venue was changed.

There was an HBO show the week of 18 Jan 2003 and I can't remember when Mick made the comment. Here is a link from one of the shows: [www.youtube.com]

As far as No. 25, I don't know where I got the number from and maybe someone should verify.

Thanks Hairball.

Below is the comment I remember from another reviewer. Love New York City!

[iorr.org]

The Rolling Stones
Madison Square Garden
New York City, NY, USA
Saturday Jan. 18, 2003
The HBO TV broadcast show

Review by Robert Bagel
The much-awaited HBO show came off very cleanly, with a minimum of inconvenience for those in attendance, just one special (yet nicely familiar) guest, and a setlist that at least partially explains why we have seen the Let it Bleed theme so much in recent shows. The energy level was good, and it especially picked up with Keith’s performance of Thru and Thru, a great song long before The Sopranos.
Save for a few camera booms and some gratuitous references to HBO, the show seemed like a good quality standard issue LICKS show, without too many chances taken but still a powerful set of songs. At one point Mick said between songs, I read in the paper today that this is probably our last show at the Garden. I don’t think so! The ongoing, working band element was very much in effect, with any notion of farewells clearly dismissed. This is the type of declaration Keith usually makes, but it was excellent to hear Mick make the statement this time.

I think Patti’s illness had an awful lot to do with the post-2007 hiatus. It is probably also true though that not having to work together hurt Keith and Mick’s relationship further. Keith was on eggshells during 2011 and 2012 over whether Mick would come back to work with the group. He didn’t even throw a big fuss after the thing where Mick Taylor did the overdubs without Keith’s knowledge.

I don’t think there’s much to the legal rumors.

It was all in your head.the sheer magnitude of the modern day Las Vegas(imagine 175,000 hotel rooms) makes it nearly impossible for any one or two events to change the energy or vibe of the place.
The rare big fight will get the place buzzing and a couple of tragedies have made it a little spooky but sweatin to the oldies at one venue and two politicians arguing at another went by almost unnoticed, just another night.

I could imagine the Stones could setup in a few major cities and have a dozen or more concerts and not have to do as much traveling.

New York City could have shows go on for months and they'd all sell out. I remember being at Madison Square Garden in 1998 and realizing there were many people there from around the word. I remember many did not speak English. New York City is an international destination that is easy and most inexpensive to get to as compared to other major cities because many flights go there.

Madison Square Garden is the ultimate Rolling Stones venue. I think the last time they were there was 2005.
Stones can never beat Billy Joel. He is the star of MSG.

I can’t imagine a slew of Jagger/Clifford credits but maybe Jagger/Richards/Clifford? Maybe this is a consideration as to the makeup of the album...

The Rolling Stones appearance at the 121212 concert for Sandy Relief wasn't really a major event for them. They were "in town" for the three shows in Brooklyn and Newark December 2012. The 121212 show was really out of their schedule, where Mick hardly perform more than two times per week. They did it in honor of all the great heroes on the floor. I tried to get a floor ticket at the massive price of some 3,000 - 4,000 usd but I did never succeed, so I settled with a great seat close to where Chris Martin and Michael Stipe did their special acoustic set. When I was at the show I realized why the floor was such a tough ticket. It was taken up by the heroes, the nurses, the fire fighters, all those who saved lives during the hurricane and the flood.

When, or I would say if, The Rolling Stones return to MSG, it will not be for a brief ten minutes performance in-between other major shows. It will be a once in a lifetime experience, I think. Bigger than the January 1998 experience. But this is only my personal opinion. They might decide on something totally different after the UK tour. May be they love UK so much they just keep touring UK & Ireland for the next twenty years.

What a nonsense. See you at the Stones show in Aberdeen in 2038! There you will get 9 songs - of course all warhorses - for 2.000 £. But that would be no problem for you I guess.

Purely speculation on my part, but perhaps that's why they've gone back to the well two more times with Mick and Keith writing new material earlier this year and last year. We've heard through the Universal grapevine via Soldatti that not all of the material is perceived as consistently strong by Interscope. Perhaps for Keith it's a chance to replace Jagger/Richards/Clifford tracks with Jagger/Richards ones. That may be why he keeps retreating to Germano Studios to hunker down with Steve Jordan before joining up with Mick. It may be a question of 4-6 tracks form 2015/2016 that everyone is pleased with and the new material the past two years are attempts to equal the standout tracks in terms of quality. Mick's guarded answers to his recent interviews suggest some of what he is writing is going in reserve though most of it is for The Stones. Time will tell.

I think this is reasonable speculation, especially with Mick’s recent interviews. I also wouldn’t be surprised if some of the other band members and the producer have weighed in, even if gently.

I’m dying of pancreatic cancer. I’m hooked up with a make-a-wish type project that will get me and my son to any concert within a reasonable radius of home (Philadelphia suburbs).

I suspect someone here knows something. Do I have any chance of using my wish to see the Stones in the north east US this year? I’m 14 months into chemo, and pancreatic cancer has one of the worst survival rates. So 14 months is a miracle in itself. I could die happier seeing the Stones one last time.

But I don’t want to waste the opportunity. If I have no chance to see the Stones then I’ll have to pick something else.

So please - if anyone knows anything somewhat concrete about future plans can you share it ?

Can anyone throw old Homer a bone here? I’m on this page 10+ times per day approaching and during tour season. Never seen so much hoarding of information.

From reading between the lines on some threads here, including some posts that were deleted, I have absolutely no doubt there are two or more people (a very small number but some) that know something about tentative US tour plans, but yet again hoard that information selfishly.

This is a major Stones site. Seems to be the perfect place to post if anyone knows what’s next. Can someone throw a literally dying brother a bone ? Do I have an opportunity to see the Stones in the Northeast US sometime in the next several months before the cancer gets another victim ?

I still feel like the stage set unveiled last Fall for No Filter has gotta be for more than just 2 European legs... Seems like it will go for as long as they'd wanna use it.

I believe they'd come back to the US, it'll be four years since Zip Code by next year, maybe they'll have some new tunes to test out!

I think the Stones are content with concert in Buffalo on July 11th of 2015 being their last stadium show in the US, and last show in NY State.
