Anybody that backs Delbert McClinton is the best.

How bout van the man?

Pentti 'Whitey' Glan and Prakash John.

I had to think on that one. Because usually people just post whoever they like. But 'underrated' means someone who I think is pretty f*cking good, but most others dont quite agree.

So - unpopular choice, but I think Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton are a very tight, and very underrated section.
Also Michael Davies and Dennis Thompson from the MC5.
And while I am no fan of the Foo Fighters, IMO their best [part is Taylor Hawkins and Nate Mendel.
A rhy. section that isn't underrated, but a bit forgotten was Berry Oakley with Butch Trucks and Jaimoe.

Duck Dunn and Al Jackson

I would say the 2 from u2 are the most overrated

Sales brothers. Not underrated perhaps but unknown.

There's an extremely rare acetate of Charlie and Bill singing "Love is Strange" in a hotel room in Exeter in Autumn 1965. The source of the acetate was an early portable tape recording. That is, to my knowledge, their only performance as a duo. It's also one of my personal Holy Grails.

I refuse to upload it, but I'm happy to provide a copy on CD-R, MP3, FLAC, MiniDisc, Cassette, Vinyl, 8-Track, or Flexi Disc (complete with pirated NME logo). Available for trade only. No cash. Sex is acceptable trade (except for Rockman - been there, done that).

Stu Cook and Doug Clifford of Creedence. No flash, just groove. So much more tasteful than former bandmate John Fogerty's overplaying touring band.

A seriously good answer, ab. How sad that John never reunited CCR. I don't much care for either of Revisited's front men over the years and I don't much care for John's back-up bands. The years have passed. What a shame. How much better John's solo albums would have been with Doug and Stu.

I would also nominate Tina and Chris from Talking Heads. Apart from their hit single, I didn't much care for Tom-Tom Club, but Talking Heads had a great rhythm section.

Not a "groove" band but the Bouchard brothers of the amazing Blue Oyster Cult.

Dennis Davis and George Murray

You can't discount 'The Swampers' and "The Wrecking Crew' and all that backed the Motown Sound, all I've mentioned played on/produced a ton of records!

Yeah good ta see The Swampers get a mention ... so many hits ...

In the studio it would of been Joe Osborn and Hal Blaine. But thank you for bringing up Joe Osborn. You can hear his bass on many, many records.
