Ryan Adams Plots 'Exile on Main St.' Tribute Show in New Orleans
Rolling Stones producer Don Was will be music director for "Exile on Bourbon St." show

Ryan Adams has partnered with producer Don Was to perform the Rolling Stones' 'Exile on Main St.' in its entirety in New Orleans.

Ryan Adams announced he will perform the Rolling Stones' 1972 album Exile on Main St. in its entirety at a special tribute concert at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans on May 5th.

For the event, called "Exile on Bourbon St.," Adams partners with longtime Rolling Stones producer, Don Was, who will serve as music director. The concert will boast an array of all-star New Orleans musicians. A complete lineup has yet to be announced.

"I've listened to all the multi-track tapes from the Exile period and it's not hyperbolic to say that this is probably the greatest rock 'n roll ever recorded," said Was, who re-mixed Exile for its 2010 reissue. "I can't wait to dig deep into these songs with The Mighty Ryan Adams and this incredible group of musicians."
Tickets for "Exile on Bourbon St." go on sale April 2nd at 10 a.m. CT via LiveNation. Tickets can also be purchased by phone or at the Saenger Theatre box office. Complete concert details are available on the "Exile on Bourbon St." website.
Blackbird Presents, the production company behind "Exile on Bourbon St.," has produced several similar tribute concerts over the past few years. Previous gigs have honored Little Feat's 1977 live record, Waiting for Columbus, and the Band's famed final concert, The Last Waltz, while other shows have paid tribute to artists like Dr. John and the Neville Brothers.

Don did not remix EXILE in 2010. It may be a minor detail, but it irritates me the press can't get this right.

Not the first time Rolling Stone has played fast and loose with the facts - just the latest.

Ryan Adams has eclectic tastes, I'll say that. I definitely think the Stones are a step up from Taylor Swift . .

Maybe it was the audio, to where I could not make out the rhythm section, but IMO that was not very good. Very stiff.

IMHO, Denson's shot at various Exile trax is a pretty cool jam session!

There's lots of really good grooves in stuff we don't get live from the Stones like Ventilator Blues, Just Wanna See His Face, Casino Boogie, and Shake Your Hips.

I heard in an interview that Ryan Adams opened for the Stones. When I tried looking it up I couldn't find any info. Does anyone know when/where this took place? I'll take my answer off the air. Thank you.

Surprised this thread went quiet. I've seen Ryan three times, and I'm leaving Los Angeles tomorrow for the Jazz Fest and this show. I'm getting excited to hear lots of great Exile songs that I've never heard live before in over 30 Stones shows...

Phish did a pretty good job covering all of Exile at their Halloween show in 2009. It was available for download from their website at the time. . . the only Phish I ever cared to purchase. By contrast I have a lot of Ryan Adams records and like most of his stuff. I think he will have a better instinctual feel for Exile. I was at one of the shows he opened at MSG for the Stones and was fairly bored, as I am with most Stones opening acts.

The commenters on that Instagram post are hilarious. Can the meaning of “sixes and sevens and nines” in a song with the word “dice” in the title not be any clearer?

Singer-songwriter Ryan Adams will headline an all-star concert event Exile On Bourbon St. honoring The Rolling Stones’ landmark album Exile On Main St.. The lineup of musicians joining Adams at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans this Saturday, May 5 has been revealed.

Adams will lead a complete performance of Exile On Main St. while backed by native New Orleans percussionist Cyril Neville and drummer Terence Higgins, as well as keyboardist John Medeski and trombonist Mark Mullins.

Organized by Blackbird Presents, bassist Don Was was previously named musical director for the event. Seven of The Rolling Stones albums have been produced by Was, including the 2010 re-mixed version of Exile On Main St. and The Stones’ 2016 LP Blue & Lonesome.
