Just found a Russian pressing of Sticky Fingers. From 1992 and with their own jeans cover. That lead me to check what other Stones albums the Russians have released on vinyl. Aside from a couple of 60’s compilations it seems only Let it bleed (1992) and IORR (1993) were made.
Good choises, but strange that Exile and Goats were skipped.

Interesting. I do remember McCartney sort of breaking the ice with a show in Moscow years back;
for the longest time; and probably still to a large degree culturally, the government was very critical of the entire 60's rock and roll culture...
...saw it as drug-ridden and exploitive and dangerous to youth, which is sort of why I liked it, but anyhoo...
...interesting what rock and roll artists or stations that play rock and roll might be available to the average Russian.
This last 15 years of communication technology exploding is probably making most everything available.

Considering the track list and personnel on those two albums, they've
got a Huge, Fat bucket load of deservedly classic great songs.
I really like IORR. Not all of it, but when it shines it's glorious.
Bleed is beyond discussion, such the level or artistry, elegance and power.
So that is more than very Good place to start (and land)...
plus they have Greatest Hits comps, so hopefully a taste from
Exiles or Sticky there.
But wow, the Stones Greatest Hits; any sequenced compilation from that bunch of songs is MAJORLY stunning.

I'm not sure of this; but I think Hot Rocks is still their biggest selling release cumulatively.
That might vary from Continent to Continent; but also may not. Someone HERE would know w certainty.

there were 3 compilation lps in ussr, with songs circa 1964-67, and 3 lps in 1992-94, namely---- Fingers, iorr and steel wheels, and also wandering spirit (yes)

also several flexis on budkon label in mid 90s, with one song each, i guess. and 2 flexi eps in 1975, first including only 1 stones song (under my thimb) with 3 diferent artist traks, second -- 4 tracks by the stones,--- ruby tuesday, paint it blaack, lady jane, as tears go by. there were several pictyres sleeves but only one with band foto. also a james last orchestra lp with 4 stones tracks insterted in-- satisfacton, out of time, not fade away, under my thmns. circa 1975 also

there were vinyl versions of above mentioned flexis, with many color label variations, mostly released in generic sleeves, but some pressings with pic sleeves including band's name in Russian and song titles, but NEVER with a band photo.
all soviet vinyl eps with the band photos on the sleeve are fakes!

also, a steel wheels flexi ep is a fake, say -- half-fake. it was released in 1989 in soviet magazine Krugozor (horizons) as an audio supplement, but with no picture sleeve. those on ebay are cut-outs, as the record was pressed inside the mag

and this is indeed the very first stones flexi ep in ussr, sirca 1974. only one song by the stones, the sleeve reads "pop music of the planet" and bears no mention of band's name, only mick & keef as authors.



interesting that among other artists on this ep, there is a track by mac & katie kissoon, who later sang backing vocals on "sex drive"
