I have the feeling The Rolling Stones have problems now with more than 25 different songs per leg. They're too old to remember 40 or 60 songs. That's why they only play these 25. I would be surprised about other opening songs than SMU, JJF or SFTD. 2/3 of all shows since 1989 and most shows since 2005 were started with SMU or JJF.

Did they play some many different ones? Okay, 25 was nonsense. But 37 - half of them only once or twice - is also very disappointing. Look at the Licks Tour, where they played some 30 in one city.

I have eternal hope that the Stones may one day play Have You Seen Your Mother Baby, Standing In The Shadows. If they opened with it this time I might not make it through the rest of the gig as I'll probably pass out.

The problem is not the number of songs, but the fact that 17-18 (of 20) are the same in every show.

Now you're talking! Swap 5 or 6 numbers with lesser-played songs, and the setlist will appear rather fresh, compared to recent setlists, right?

Highwire ? I think I would piss myself with excitement if they ever played that again, so best they don't open with it or it would be a long wet night. Star Star would also get me in a state but as you say Never gonna happen. I'm happy with SMU as its a pretty perfect opener SFTD would be nice as its a bit different and I didn't catch the show last year.Quote

There ARE suitable potential opening songs they never played (or not played since 30 years) like maybe We Love You, One Hit or Highwire. But: we all know this will never happen.

How about opening each show with a DIFFERENT song? That would add a surprise factor.
