On average, I wonder what rock and roll bands have the highest ticket prices - pretty sure the Stones take the top spot. McCartney or U2 might be next?
No matter what, it's amazing how expensive concert tickets have become over the last couple of decades. Would be nice for any of those bands to give back to the fans once in awhile - maybe set one or two stadium shows aside with $25 tickets across the board. Might not help their total gross, and might not be realistic in todays business world, but it would show some good will and no doubt be appreciated by many - might even start a trend.

ROLLING STONES TOP MID-YEAR TOUR EARNINGS LIST

The Rolling Stones are the top-earning touring rock band of 2018 so far, according to industry monitor Pollstar, which recently published its six-month worldwide Top 100 and put the band in third place overall.

While pop stars Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars were ahead of the Stones, making $213.9 million and $113.4 million, respectively, the veteran band, with $100.8 million, were comfortably ahead of Eagles, Roger Waters, U2 and the Foo Fighters. You can see the rock and metal list below.
“This year’s survey saw a 12 percent jump in total gross from last year’s $1.97 billion to a record-setting $2.21 billion" across the Top 100, Pollstar noted. "It’s the chart’s biggest rise since 2015-16 and a change from 2017’s mid-year total gross, which actually decreased by $10 million."

Pollstar said that "soaring average ticket prices contributed significantly to worldwide touring’s ascendant gross with a record high of $96.31 – a 14.1 percent increase and nearly $12 jump over 2017’s $84.40. The precipitous rise speaks to the industry’s aggressive pricing strategy to better meet demand and exclude the secondary market.”

It was also noted that the overall number of concert tickets sold among the Top 100 slightly fell to 22.9 million from 23.4 million this time last year. In terms of individual prices, Bruce Springsteen’s average $509 for entry to his Springsteen on Broadway show was highest, with $40 for Marvel Universe Live! the lowest. “Apples and oranges,” Pollstar observed.

Yes, and they'll plunder their way across the US as soon as they're done counting all the money they just made.
And while their priorities seem to be on money making nostalgia mini tours, hopefully they can squeeze in a bit of studio time!

It would be nice if could skim through this board without running into Hairball negativity...
but every thread... there he is bashing on the band... always with his nasty negative vibe.

You're totally delusional, and to prove how wrong you are, here are all of my recent posts - this way you won't have to sniff out the ones you think are negative and throw another tizzy.

For some reason, the ticket price for the No Filter Pit has been left out.
At least for the first nine shows in Ireland and the UK. It was around $600.

Every ticket sold doesn't necessarily mean a full house (max.cap attendance) - f.i. scalpers buy (loads of) tickets in order to push these with profit; at the risk of being left full-handed...

I just wanted to peruse georgelicks thread, his numbers are always interesting to look over.... and maybe make a comment about the successful tour... but nope... Hairball was already here dishing out his usual nasty crap, insulting The Stones... but of course he was... he always is... everyday... all day... bashing on The Stones. It is what he does.

The question is,why do you care? If he’s “insulting the Stones” as you say that doesn’t effect you as a person one way or another.
You are not one of The Rolling Stones, you are one of millions of fans.if you died they wouldn’t even know about it.
It’s like when some fans bash Mick because Keith does it,Mick is his oldest friend and lifelong business partner, and yet there are crazies who think they have some stake in the situation.
It’s about one step away from the guys who wait outside some young starlets house feeling they have a connection to the celebrity.
Do you think Mick and Keith are sitting somewhere reading this”damn Hairball giving us crap,at least leonioid stepped on our behalf”

Please please there is no reason for fighting about these matters. Some fans love this other fans love that. We can't all love the very same thing, then everybody would be on Keith side, or Ronnie side, if you see what I mean.

Some say the Stones are only in it for the money. Well if that was a fact then they would never have played Southampton or Coventry. They would have played Las Vegas, NYC, LA, Chicago all the time, then Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Tokyo and a few more big cities. Certainly not any smaller cities, and certainly not Havana.

Still, the Stones are not a charity programme. They did not donate all their income to stop malaria or to world peace. Neiher did I. Neither did any of us. The Rolling Stones are a rock act, a very successful one, operating in the capital and commercial world, where most people involved try to maximize the income. No big surprise. The T-shirts are 30 or 35 Euro, not 10. The T-shirts at 10 are sold in the streets. The pit is hundreds of dollars or Euro, not 10 pounds like the club show tickets. If you think it is too expensive then do something else, or play their songs from their records.

Another question is why do you care enough to comment about our comments? Why go so far off the deep end making generalizations and judgements?

I made a comment that it would be nice to every once in a while be able to read comments about my favorite band without every thread being clogged up by the same people making the same negative comments every day in every thread.

It would be nice to have an ignore feature which would disappear posts by predictable posters who make the same negative debbie downer comments over and over and over... it would nice to not have every thread clogged up by that stuff.

You can always ignore the comments you disagree with and simply not respond to them. If you do, there's no need to be argumentative about it. If you see a poster you're not likely to agree with, simply skip past. It's not so hard.

We are all Stones fans and like any disparate group with a shared interest, we have a broad range of opinions and levels of fandom. No amount of debate will change anyone to your point of view. Every human on the planet is entitled to their own opinion.

Yes, a lot of money. But a lot of people, too ... No Filter Tour 2017-18, total attendance 1,506,259. Which means an average 54,800, for every gig. This would be a very strong number, even if the prices were "normal". By these, high prices it's simply incredible.

Before the first *Vegas '16 show was cancelled, there were plenty of tickets available for both shows. About a month before those shows even happened, there were entire sections having massive price drops - some lucky folks here even posted about it. And then Mick became sick and the rest is history regarding that show.

As for the second *Vegas '16 show (where Mick the trooper was still sick and far from 100% - tickets were readily available not only officially at the box office, but massive amounts on stubhub which were being heavily discounted to the point of almost being given away for free. All around the floor seats I did acquire via stubhub the day of the show (original face $750+fees - paid apprx. $250), there were many empty seats throughout the entire show. Right up to the beginning of the show, our entire row was empty, but eventually did fill up - probably with more stubhub ticket buyers. Evidently this show also officially "sold out", but based on the empty seats, you could have fooled me. With the setlist down to only 18 songs, and Mick being covered by backup singers for much of the show, hard to even consider it a real Rolling Stones show in comparison to all others I've seen, and it probably should have been cancelled as well. It was almost sad to see Mick croak his raspy vocals when trying to sing the 'yeah, yeah, yeah, whoooo's' during Brown Sugar which he totally held back on, not to mention his overall restraint during Sympathy and every other song. On the plus side, Keith sang three songs, the blues cover was nice, and of course Midnight Rambler - specifically the guitars, bass, and drums.

With the price bar being set so high for those two indoor arena shows, and the fact they had a hard time selling either of them (in Vegas no less with all the rich high rollers), there's a slim chance they won't push it too far if and when they return. But realistically, the prices on average are probably going to be the highest ever imaginable by any band.

The Stones tickets are priced according to them being the gold standard in live rock and roll and at desert trip they were just average and back east they still remember them getting destroyed by AC/DC at that sars show in Toronto.

I think they’re more popular in Europe and South America at this point, once you fall off the cliff in the States it’s a quick drop.
People notice things though it might not seem like it,playing a convention in Vegas is the bottom of the barrel and you’re trying to sell tickets for $750 at your show across the street? Not good.
Another thing that didn’t go unnoticed, the last gig they did here was one of Trumps billionaire friends birthday party, ouch.
Hopefully They’ll put out the new album and stick to the coasts otherwise the tarps are coming out.

every show sold out? Anyone who has been there knows…

Every ticket sold doesn't necessarily mean a full house (max.cap attendance) - f.i. scalpers buy (loads of) tickets in order to push these with profit; at the risk of being left full-handed...

there were plenty of ticket officially available for many shows – even shortly before the beginning

Seems they could have, even should have, rescheduled the first cancelled Vegas show for a few days later, and cancelled the Trump billionaire friends birthday party instead. I know many people who were hurt by that first show cancellation, and when they found out about the Trump billionaire party going forward it was like rubbing salt in the wounds. But I guess from their perspective, they only had to play 14 songs in front of a handful of people and it was easy money vs. giving a full show in front of thousands of real fans - some of who traveled from afar...doesn't make sense from a fans perspective.

The Rolling Stones Wrap No Filter Tour With $237.8 Million Earned

8/3/2018 by Kevin Rutherford

The trek played to 1.5 million fans over 28 sold-out shows.

The close of the second European leg of The Rolling Stones’ No Filter tour finds the band with 14 more sellouts to its credit, selling out every show of its jaunt between May and July, to lead the Hot Tours ranking dated Aug. 4.

In all, the tour’s second European leg, which kicked off May 17 at Dublin’s Croke Park and concluded at PGE Narodowy in Warsaw on July 8, grossed $117,844,618 over 750,874 tickets sold, according to data reported to Billboard. It was led by a significant chunk of change from the band’s two-night set at London Stadium, which brought in $20,496,697 over the shows on May 22 and 25.

AEG and Concerts West promoted the entire leg together, with other local promoters adding support on various dates.

The recently reported dates are coupled with another 14-date set that ran from Sept. 9-Oct. 25, 2017 on the continent that brought in $119,957,689, making the tour’s overall gross $237,802,307 with 1,506,219 tickets and 28 sold-out shows.

How does that compare to past jaunts? The Stones’ most recent tour leg of a similar length came in early 2016, when the band toured Latin America from Feb. 3 (Santiago, Chile) to March 25 (Havana, Cuba) -- 14 dates in all, though the Havana date was put on for free. Then, the band accrued $83,874,323 over 729,292 tickets sold.

Meanwhile, the band’s Zip Code Tour, which stretched from May 20-July 15, 2015, in the U.S., earned just under $110 million.

The Stones' follow-up tour has not yet been announced.

While no-one’s questioning that it was a highly successful tour attracting huge crowds, it’s complete nonsense to suggest that all shows were sold out.

Of the 28 shows, only Hamburg, Lucca and Warsaw were in any way hard to get hold of. There were thousands of empty seats in Dublin and availability was plentiful at most other shows, notably Spielberg, Stockholm, Manchester, Cardiff and Edinburgh. No one turning up ticketless on showday would have had any difficulty at all apart from the 1st 3 mentioned.

Makes plenty of sense from a "fans" perspective.
It's the semi or non fan perspective it doesn't make sense to.

The band had another prior commitment, it's called music business for a reason, and they fulfill their business commitments, except when illness etc make it not possible. Like most of us, if we miss a days work, we don't go back in time to try to recreate it, we recover and move forward. Additionally, they also actually did play Vegas a few days after the cancellation, (that you attended). If they didn't have a second show already booked, your continual whine over the cancellation would be more coherent. It's painfully obvious that your real issue was the pricing, and you have lashed out at them ever since over every aspect of the few shows.

My wife missed the cancelled show and had to fly home with no show, a lot of us were impacted by the cancellation, but most are adult enough to get that life happens, and move on.

Even though the pricing was the most ridiculously high I've ever seen, I was able to get in for 1/4th of the price the day of show so that had no impact on me personally.

On the contrary, it's seems it's only the #1 cheerleader that it makes sense to.

If you read back through the Vegas threads, many were not only upset by the fact that they cancelled the first show, but even more so when the band went ahead and played the Trump friends party a few days later. Not everybody is a cheerleader/worshipper that forgives and accepts every single thing the band do and jumps at their defense (even to the point of constantly trolling peoples posts that might rub them the wrong way), but of course there are a few who will justify and defend everything at all cost as if they've been brainwashed in a religious cult. But I have no personal beef with these folks and I certainly never take offense or feel the need to follow them around to dispute or question their opinions or beliefs. But enough back and forth because it's painfully obvious you only have one vision - that the Stones are infallible, and wherever they trod is holy ground, and that's your right.

Clearly those numbers and stats have been manipulated, and maybe someone whose in the know can explain why some of these shows are listed as sellouts when in actuality they never were.

Every human on the planet is entitled to their own opinion.

thumbs up

Words of wisdom, and while I do my best to avoid the arguments, sometimes it's not easy when you have a troll following you around disputing nearly every single post you make. Maybe a certain other will take heed and focus on other things he actually likes about the band rather than causing disruption when he disagrees with someone else's opinion.

Meanwhile, their hits are there for the main public, Hot Rocks remains Top 50 in the UK (#43) and #155 in the U.S with around 8-7k units combined each week (2k in the UK, 5k in the U.S), 350k-400k yearly, and that's from one album only and from 2 countries.

And we ask why they work two months a year and why there's no rush to release a new album, with such big and strong catalog the money will be always there.
