WAY O.T.: Casino Royale 1967

I’m watching David Niven as 007. What an absolute bunch of entertaining silliness. And, a killer cast. I had forgotten about this incarnation of James Bond.

This doesn't actually count among the James Bond canon, as it's more a parody. I mean, Peter Sellers writing a James Bond movie?

Fun fact: David Niven was Ian Fleming's original choice to play James Bond, before they cast Sean Connery.

Great soundtrack: The Look Of Love, a favorite among fans of Dusty Springfield.

He was not an "official" James Bond, was he? On any case, this film is very entertaining. At least, it's way better than On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Yeah, it's not one part of the Broccoli family production, just like "Never Say Never Again" where Connery came back.

Neither are in the main Bond canon, although Niven technically counts as an actor who portrayed James Bond, which many people forget. I actually saw someone lose a movie trivia contest by failing to include Niven.

Oh, definitely a parody. I’ve always liked David Niven, such an urbane persona. The film is a romp and it seems everyone involved is having a great deal of fun.

Well, hold on there. I know a few Bond aficionados (and I mean serious fans),
and they all put OHMSS as one of the best, if not THE best Bond. Not necessarily Lazenby, but the story, Diana Rigg, and the other cast. Mainly the story.

Yes, that is true. I don't think I've seen OHMSS, but it is held in high regard among hardcore Bond fans. I know Lazenby himself gets a bad rap, but the storyline and the portrayal of Bond is considered one of the best and most accurate to Fleming's work.

Over-the-top silly and a darn good time. Love it.

The Casino Royale theme music makes me smile every time I hear it. For years the out of print vinyl soundtrack was very collectable.

I remember watching this movie many years ago and I didn't like it. Maybe it's time to watch it again. grinning smiley

Amongst my lifelong interest in things British like the Stones and the entire British invasion has been James Bond. Being the right age as an adolescent/teen in the 60s I loved Bond and all the spy shows like Avengers, I Spy and Man from Uncle.

The main thing I remember liking about OHMSS which I recently watched a part of (have the amazing box set of all Bond films on blu-ray) are the skiing scenes. I was also and still am a skier and those were great sequences, especially when the bad guy goes into the snowblower and red snow comes out . . . Yeah!

Lazenby? Nothing special but certainly not horrible.
