It was in 1975, on the Barclay label, that the legendary series of official HENDRIX re-releases appeared with each cover illustrated by an artist of the French comic book revue Pilote. Six illustration in total and the covers by Philippe Druillet, Moebius and Jean Solé are among the most famous in the world in what is the incredible and seemingly never-ending discography of the Voodoo Child.

Today, the French company A à Z, which specialises in the reproduction of famous comic book art, have obtained PHILIPPE DRUILLET's authorisation to use his famous illustration to adorn two legendary guitars: the Stratocaster and the Telecaster (with the full approval of Fender).

A limited series of 26 of each guitar, from A to Z + a 00 number.
Each model is numbered by laser marking, signed and presented in a case specially designed by Philippe Druillet.

Stratocaster 4990 € - Telecaster 3990 € (overseas delivery possible)

RELEASE DATE APRIL 20, 2018.

Although this seems to be geared towards collectors more than players, since the guitar seems to be functional, I wonder if there will be any "right-handed" versions... where the artwork wouldn't be upside-down when held by a right-handed player. Not that I'm looking to buy one...

Peace,
Mr DJA

They thought about it. Of course, all this work was closely
done with the designer Philippe Druillet. There is not a special way to see his drawing, it's call an ambigram.

Quite complicate to please the right-handed and also the left-handed players anyway !

It's actually 5K for the Mexican Strat and 4K for the Mexican Tele...

Druillet is a a very famous artist and they only made 27 guitars each for the all world.

Mmh ...

This thread looks OT, and as it were a promo campaign, is it not?

Oui bien sûr Yaz, but buying a bunch of US-made Fenders would have better choice imo.

I'm no art expert so I may be out of my league, but the picture of the guitar certainly doesn't look like an ambigram to me. Hanging on the wall or in the hands of a lefty, the art will look good. In the hands of a righty, in my opinion, Hendrix would be upside down, on his back and look kind of silly.

My assumption is that these guitars really aren't being made to be played and the fact that it's supposedly a working guitar is pretty much moot. This seems to be a piece of art for someone to hang on the wall and brag about to their friends. And that's cool even if it doesn't appeal to me personally.

Druillet may be a famous artist but my US made Strat & Tele are both beautiful to look at and listen to without an upside down Hendrix cartoon work of art on them.

Here's hoping that these 54 guitars find loving homes and get to sing in their own voices for many years to come. Even if that won't be at my home.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Thank you kindly for the working link .Also wouldn't it be nice if the guitars adorned with this most wonderful art were actually USA Fender Reissues and if I had a wish maybe Fender Custom Shop axes ?

Last June 26, one of the Stratocaster (numbered 00) was given to Ron Wood (just before the show in Marseille). Unfortunately, we are STILL waiting a cool shot with the very nice present....eye rolling smiley

Come on Ronnie !

nice guitar; is it alder? curious as to the woods used.
looks like very well tooled; i'd love to have it!!
first thing i'd sand that bad painting off it tho.
nice natural finish. or maybe candy apple red like them new york special strats
a few years back.
yeh very nice!
i think you need a few different textures of sand-paper to get it really smooth,
like when you sand floors. god what a mess.
