Keith Richards, and Other Bad Boys of Rock
Posted by: flilflam ()

I just finished reading The Heroine Diaries, by Nikki Sixx, the former bass player and singer of Motley Crue. This man reported a life time of drugs, sex, and rock and roll, along with bad behavior, such as physical and emotional abuse of his fellow band members and managers, many women, and contempt for authority. He engaged in reckless behavior such as burning rooms in hotels and throwing TV sets out of windows. He claims that Keith Richards inspired him to do many of these things. He stated he loved the effects of alcohol, cocaine, and especially heroin, as did Keith years ago. Nikki also whined constantly about how his mother had mistreated him, and how the record companies were making him work too hard. His fatigue was most likely due to a lack of sleep and a head full of illegal substances, instead of record company persecution.

Anyway, who are the other bad boys of rock ? I have mentioned two already. Any other nominations for Bad Boy of Rock and Roll. They could be women singers or be older performers or some of the newer musicians.

Guys like Nikki and Slash are poseurs when it comes to their lifestyle. They chose to emulate Keith irrespective of the consequences or whether they had the physical constitution to do so. Both nearly died from it.

Keith wasn't emulating anyone. He was just finding his own way, for better or worse. To become a heroin addict in an effort to be like your hero is ill-advised, to say the least.

Nikki likes to tell fairy tales. Here's how he "nearly died".

Apart from Keith, I can only think about two of the last men standing: Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis. There must be others, for sure.

Standing no longer, but Lemmy von Motörhead.

GG Allin - born Jesus Christ Allin (1956-1993)

GG Allin

"To some, G.G. Allin was the ultimate symbol of rock & roll rebellion, taking it to extremes that no one else was dangerous enough to explore. To others, he was a lunatic whose attempts to shock and disgust were too ham-fisted to be taken seriously. Wherever the truth lay, there can be no doubt that Allin was the most spectacular degenerate in rock & roll history. Music was almost incidental to his violent, scatological stage act, which got him arrested over 50 times for a litany of offenses, and made Iggy Pop's antics with the Stooges look like The Donny & Marie Show".

Yeah, you know I have a full magazine account of that story somewhere. I'll have to dig that out, scan it, and post it here.

He went without sleep for something like a week!

Stevie Jones from the Pistols. He was the real deal.
And the two bad boys from the MC5 - Wayne Kramer and Fred Smith.
Yes I d say Stiv Bators too.

But Lou Reed, Jello Biafra have been mentioned already.

PS Nikki Sixx is a freakin idiot. Whiner, dilettante.

"Music was almost incidental to his violent, scatological stage act," I can't disagree with this statement, as he had virtually no musical talent. I can't even consider him a musician.

I dunno about that. Not a fan of his repulsive antics, but he had some decent tunes in the punk rock genre imo (and many punk rockers lacked skills and could hardly be considered musicians):

GG Allin - Bite it You Scum

GG Allin & The Jabbers - Dead or Alive
