Not sure if it's been discussed but the every time I hear each of these songs it sounds like a different version of the same song.

Just read this on songfacts, though I think La Grange sounds closer to Slim Harpo's Shake Your Hips than it does to John Lee Hooker's Boogie Chillen (edit: video below).

"The music is based on a John Lee Hooker song called "Boogie Chillen." Hooker died in 2001 at age 83. In 1992, Bernard Besman, who owned the copyright to "Boogie Chillen,"
claimed he had just recently heard the song and sued ZZ Top. After years of litigation, a court ruled that "Boogie Chillen" was in the public domain and ZZ Top was not liable".

Not sure if ZZ Top were familiar with the Stones' version of Shake Your Hips when they recorded LaGrange (released in '73), but chances are they might have.
No doubt though that they had to be familiar with one of the versions though as there are some similarities , but there are some subtle differences as well.
Songwriting is credited to Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill, and Frank Beard aka ZZ Top, so the question is if the estate of Slim Harpo had any issues with it.

Awesome to see John Lee Hooker up there - he exudes so much coolness - were you at that show Sicilian?

I was lucky enough to see him back around 1979 at the very small Fox Theater in Venice, CA with Canned Heat and the Chambers Brothers - being only 16 at the time I was in complete awe.

I saw them twice in 1989 in Toronto. At the CNE in late summer. The Stone Temple Pilots opened and I think they did an acoustic set. Then I went back to the SkyDome in December and Living Colour opened.

.....and the "Canned heat" boogie.....!

Crawlin' Kingsnake 1941 (although Big Joe Williams recorded it first)
and Hooker turned Hollin's Travellin' Man Blues into his own When My First Wife Left Me ....

Hollins also cut the first recording of Cross Cut Saw Blues in 1941 but it was never issued .....

Because it is.

Rollin' And Tumblin' has been changed many times over the years but a lot of them seem to be based off of Muddy Waters' version. But that's the same song title with the same or similar music so a bit different than what you're pointing out.

Based on what's available to read about that tour, the Stones themselves probably or possibly didn't know until the date approached, and yet... well, I don't really need to $ay anthing that would $ound $illy, do I? Am I taking the pi$$? Maybe...

As the story goes, Mick Jagger, Richards, and the rest of the band members (to their credit), registered serious reluctance that a nine-digit paycheck was worth being associated with such a goon. So to assuage their fears, Cohl drew up a contract barring Trump from promoting the show in one of his self-aggrandizing press conferences or even attending the concert himself.

I remember going to a Springsteen show about 10 years ago and they played one of their songs that had this riff. I said to my friend "This sounds like ZZ Top" and then this guy sitting in front of me replied in a snotty tone of voice
" ... or Bo Diddley" as if to correct me, but he just said it to his girlfriend next to him. He didn't even turn around to look at me... Wait what were we talking about?

Weird, I know, this recognition I've been experiencing;
but listening to a Lot of classical music this year thus far;
various composers and general stylistic 'movements' culturally.
Honestly, I think I've heard a dozen hard rock riffs and various familiar popular melodies,
(and a much more interesting development context that longer pieces employ).

So who wrote what always a pile-on.

With ZZ and that riff:
Gosh both groups are mining the same hole here; both do it with a lot of excitement;
those 'who came first' things are fun tho....

L.A. band Love, coming out with "She Comes in Colors" in lyrics,
way before the Stones song for one example....
tho that was lyrics, not that riff (everyone) uses and works around;
which i think is somewhat considered
standard by now.

I hadn't heard it before and I'm SURE really glad for the referral.
They do an incredible job; hurricane force and she's an awesome force of nature.

I recently saw her when I luckily scrolled across Cheap Trick special
Sgt. Pepper Anniversary tribute concert, which was Totally awesome.
She was in the cast and did beautifully; Brought some heat and soul.
It's a stone pity how under-rated each and every member of Cheap Trick is;
Yes Bun E. Carlos is back for this show. which is huge in itself for Trick fans.

Yes this version of Hip Shake is absolutely blowing my head off...
