Satisfaction - possible nod to Alexis Korner...

I'm currently reading Sam Cutler's autobiography (so far so good!) and in it when he discusses meeting/working with Alexis Korner, he says that Alexis taught him about doing commercial voice overs for extra cash. He mentions that Alexis was the voice of Daz detergent and their catch line, as voiced by Alexis was "Daz washes whiter than white."

It made me wonder if the lines "When I'm watchin' my tv and a man comes on and tell me How white my shirts can be..." are a nod to him.

Anyone ever hear any support for this theory out there?? Almost seems to obvious to not be connected!

I don't think that Alex was doing commercials when Satisfaction came out.

"Daz washes whiter": [www.youtube.com]
"Persil washes even whiter": [www.youtube.com]

This is the Daz advert where the line "I've won five pounds if I have his kind of detergent pack" in "Get Off Of My Cloud" comes from.

"As we say in England, it can get a bit trainspottery"

Wow - I knew that powder played a major part in inspiration behind Stones' songs but never knew it was detergent! grinning smiley

Cutler doesn't specify what ads Korner voiced...the conversation in his book is from 1967, so clearly after Satisfaction, but merely says that Korner told him he "was the voice heard behind all kinds of advertisements" and he "was the voice in the Daz ads." Korner also discussed with him the residuals and royalties he got from the ads. So, it doesn't sound like it had only been a recent thing for Korner. Who knows...maybe, like George Harrison would later learn, it was a subliminal connection!
