I finally understand why Keith is the last man standing (on the cake)

"All of the mini-musicians have tumbled into the icing, except for Brownjohn’s friend Mr. Richards. The only one left standing, he is still strumming his guitar".

Thanks Joker.
Link not working - try this one:

Let it Bleed cover artist Robert Brownjohn

"His artwork for “Let It Bleed” is to be auctioned Thursday at Bonhams in London for an estimated price of at least €35,000, about $47,000,
which is, inevitably, inflated by its association with the Rolling Stones".

I had never heard of Robert Brownjohn prior to reading this article, but he has quite an interesting story.

I don't get why Keith would be still standing on the cake -- is it because this Brownjohn fellow was Keith's friend?

By the way, that looks more like a cartoon representation of Brian Wilson than it does of Keith. And the model of Mick, it looks more like a MAD Magazine version of Peter Noone.

I never really thought much of the front and back cover artwork for this album; the only thing I ever looked at was the song title listing. I noticed the cake, but never stopped to study it. The art concept seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the music on the album.

It should have been based on Country Honk instead; that is, a painting of a funky Southern bar with Honky Tonk Women and drunk Stones all strewn about the place. That would have made more sense.

Never thought LIB had a great cover commensurate with it's status as a record

it's a great cover...it's about having your cake and eating it, or something.

actually you guys may be onto something, no real relation to the music. Where's the Midnight Rambler, Honky Tonk Women, or Monkey Man or the guy that gets the diamond from the mine?

Good to cross this one off the list and to learn that all those sinister rumors floating around for years are not true.

One presumes much much thought went into the back image. Full of symbolic meanings, the part eaten cake and pizza, the broken record, the various fates (or not) that befell the little figures on the top ... poor Brian face-down. It may be that the purpose was just the general destruction of the ordered image on the front.
It must have been fun to set up and trash.

Love the artwork; very cool assemblage;
Thing is, my favorite part of all of it is those simple song titles
on the very top. Wow. Not a loser in the bunch. Sterling incredible genius rock and roll album. Can't be ever said too many times. Wow.

Not to discount where/how the album is cracked, the exact positioning of the wheel or the Cold Italian Pizza, which has a bite out of it, but...

Thanks Rockman. It's a great stamp. Queen Elizabeth on the right, facing the Stones about to tumble in Chantilly.

The music on the vinyl inevitably makes a cover a 'great' cover...

I wonder if the Let It Bleed cover was inspiration for this...
