damn, I loved this guy. No one like him, never a compromise, and some of his music was great. Spent much of his life in the face of adversity and never backed down.
For artistic integrity, you`d have to search far and wide for someone like him in today`s music or art.
RIP

Totally agree. R.I.P. Mark. Read his book Renegade: The Lives And Tales of Mark E. Smith if you get a chance.

Really sad that MES has passed on.
Pretty shocked about it. didn't see it coming despite his recent ill health.
January snatches another poet from us.

A complete one-off, a complex, uncompromising wordsmith who was nobody's fool.
He had a biting, acerbic sense of humour that was not everyone's cup of tea. But he was mine.

At this juncture it's de rigueur to hope the deceased rests in peace, but in this instance I can't imagine Mark E Smith would want to, or indeed will be resting in peace. So I won't wish it.
Rock on.

Got to see them twice long ago when I was a teen back in 1986....Then once more in Prague in 2002...Was thinking if them lately as it's been 16 year's so time for another gig....Alas it is not to be...There is a great book out called The Fallen by Dave Simpson who Tracked down all former member's of the band....A great read find it you won't be disappointed....A true Original....Rest In Peace...M

The voice of northern england is gone and we mourn him as we would a family member.

Saw the fall live more times than any other band and spend more time listening
to their astonishing sounds than any other band.

His death is hardly surprising-he played his final gigs from a wheelchair so stricken was he- but it does not make it any easier to take.

God bless and thanks for many wonderful times.

Everybody else has said it better than me--I should have seen it coming but somehow I was still shocked. Nobody like him, RIP Mark. And thanks for all the amazing music.

Quite a bloke....and attitude!
Keith Richards seems a right goody-goody by comparison.
