Photo shoot for Hot Rocks

Is this when Keith began dressing in the style of "Keith Richards"?

Prior to this, he seemed to wear off the rack, whatever was popular at the moment fashions - then, suddenly, he became the gypsy/pirate/rock star we all know and love (clothes-wise).

I always figured it was just what Anita had in her wardrobe.

He tried outfit with the glasses, the fur and the hat first for Buttons. I guess he figured that he wasn't made out for that posh style smiling smiley

Swarkstone Hall Pavilion, Swarkstone, Derbyshire, England.

In June 1968, the Rolling Stones had a photo shoot with Michael Joeseph at the Swarkstone Pavilion for the album Beggar’s Banquet. One of the photos ended up being used for the Stones’ compilation album Hot Rocks. Beggars Banquet was re-released in a different sleeve without these pictures.

The pavilion was constructed between 1630-32 and it’s many years of neglect is evident in the Stone’s photo. In 1985 a trust renovated and mostly reconstructed the pavilion. Today you can now rent the building. For more information visit here.

What's the story behind the FRONT cover?
It was AFAIK done specifically for the compilation, since it was released in full agreement with ABKCO.

The Stones had zero input about the release. The front cover is probably from the LIB or 1969 tour photo sessions.

NOT on the tracklist, no. But the agreement with ABKCO in 1970, specified the release of 2 hits compilations and an archive release, thus with agreement from both parties.

No, it's just taken from one of the few photo sessions Ron Raffaelli had with the stones in 1969.

I think those photos of the band playing cricket were done in the same place.

The photo from 'More Hot Rocks' looks btw like this:

It's simply inverted (like a Negative).

They simply entered through the frontdoor, went upstairs, and then climbed through the open windows. Can’t be too difficult, right?

Are there any other photos from that session around? I don't think I've ever seen anything similar, just the one image from the cover.

This is probably the best known photo that Raffaelli took.

Yes, that's right. It's a very effective image, and quite iconic, at least if you are my age. It seemed like absolutely everybody owned a copy of Hot Rocks when I was in high school. I'm curious what else they did at that photo session.
