I was at that show and remember the Cranberries being the support band. RIP Delores. 46 is ridiculously young to go. A tribute to her on BBC Radio 5 as I type. She leaves 3 children without their mother all of a sudden. Just horrible.

I can remember the first time I heard Zombie. Her vocals start off soft, almost spoken in that lovely Irish tone, building up. Then BAM!!! She just let's go and belts it out. WOW. She got my attention.

Linger is one of my favourite songs.

Mine too; it brought me to tears once.

RIP Dolores.

This song brings me so many good memories. Everytime it was played on the radio, I stopped everything just to listen to it.

RIP Dolores, and thanks for the music.

Terribly sad news.

I used to think she was an extremely attractive lady.
Saw The Cranberries live 2-3 times over the years & sadly they always disappointed.

That is very sad News. I only saw her once but always loved Zombie. A song you stay in the car for when it is played on Radio.

At the Berlin show opening for the Stones I remember at the catwalk a huge guy in the audience trying to attach a banknote to her trouser. Her eyes killed him right away with only one look while she kept singing. Tough little lady!

Very sad news and I didn't realise that Zombie was written about the Warrington attack by the I.R.A until today.

Never again do you call me Dandy

So sad.

That's way too young.

Won't forget Zombie when it came out in 1994 and her voice still touches me today.

God bless you Dolores.

What a tragedy, 46 is way too young.

I absolutely couldn't stand her singing though...there's people who start to hysterically laugh or cry when they hear bagpipes and I had that with her singing. The combination of the Irish accent and that yodeling voice is totally unbearable to me.

Cause of death : Fentanyl overdose...

Are you sure?

From [www.Independent.co.uk] :

"While O'Riordan's death has been ruled unsuspicious, her autopsy and toxicology report remains confidential.

The coroner has put the investigation into her cause of death on hold until April 3 'as they await the results of further tests'. "

Pure speculation and rumour based on a supposed "quote" by "a source in the London Police Department" the day after her death.

And now it is a bona fide IORR RIP thread.

There has never been an IORR RIP thread yet where at least one person could not resist their urge to post how much something about the recently deceased was unbearable... or someone going on and on how much they yadaa yadda yadda negative waves the deceased.

I actually though this thread might be the first where the classless person didn't show up... but nope.

In all honesty, I'm not far from Mathijs' opinion : DOR had above-average singing capacities but imho she was not a great artist.
She was more of a "one hit" wonder ("Zombie" of course).
The huge media commotion over her passing is - imho again - totally out of proportion with her (rather tiny) legacy in the pop music history.

What I don't get is how Mathijs can put down DOR while rooting for Adele. Don't these two play(ed) in the same category : the "Spinal Tap singers" aka " singers with vocal chords pushed to 11" grinning smiley

Re: RIP Dolores O'Riordan of The Cranberries

Just out of curiosity, incidentally. Dolores is the plural form of Dolor. Dolor means Pain. This name refers to the pain suffered by Mary when his Son was in the Cross. Dolores is a very common name. Lola is the friendly way of saying Dolores.
There is also a spanish name that recalls that pain: Angustias. Angustias is the plural form of Anguish.
