Eric was probably drunk, too!

Surprise appearance for 3 songs on Jimmie Vaughan gig in London last night. Looked very good and played even better. What a band!

Thanks for that man. I've never seen it, Eric's on fire there.
I actually think Eric played better through the drinking years, just as our Keith played better in the coked up years.
Just watched The Last Waltz last night, Robbie Robinson was trying to give Eric a run for his money, then a clearly drunk Clapton just blew him away with a solo and Eric puts his finger up gesturing I'm the number one mate haha so funny to see Eric with the giant ego back then.

Bell Bottom Blues (acoustic) was performed that way in 2001.

I saw Eric Clapton last night in Nashville at Bridgestone Arena. I’ve never seen him before, but I’m a big fan of his 60s and 70s work. He seemed a little slow to start but about a song and a 1/2 in he started warming up. The other guitar player took some of the solos. Clapton didn’t do all of the heavy lifting, but he still has it. The boy can still solo. I liked the set list and the simple stage set up. No frills just great music. Very satisfying show.

Thank you for your firsthand account of the show. I’m glad you liked it.
Like you said, the man still can play at his senior age.
As regards the setlist, there should be no problem if you saw him for the first time.
I attended his show more than one hundred times over the fifty years. I know, it’s a First World problem…

Indeed it was! The venue, Turkcell Kuruçe?me Arena, was situated on the European side of Turkey and right by the Bosphorus, an open-air site directly overlooking the strait to the right. Such a nice setting — together with the unexpected fireworks over the sky (which were unrelated to the show), it remains one of the most atmospheric and memorable Clapton concerts I have been at to this day.

BTW I recall that, in Where’s ERIC! physical fanzine reporting Clapton/Winwood’s European tour, an American diehard who followed them through all the dates picked Munich as the best of the lot. He also praised Belgrade as another great show where Winwood’s play shone through IIRC.

I remember those reviews! Not much praise for the Romanian gig, but I'm glad he had a nice time over here.
I was in the fan pit, few meters in front of Eric; he seemed very relaxed, mentioned his previous visits to Belgrade (1979, 1984). Before the show he paid visit to our Goran Bregovic, whose work he loves:
