No Jones no stones. Simple as that.

I love Brian, but this is laughable, and I think he would find it too. The musty old couch of a town he yearned to escape from? The one where he knocked up a few local birds? Or is Brian so safely dead that they could revise his image into a tourist trap? Like Steinbeck in Salinas? Aren't there any footballers or other minor celebrities they can deify?

"A proper Brian Jones Trail in the town, including his former house, school, places he hang around, his grave, etc."

Sounds like a bizarre plan imo...like some morbid treasure hunt.
Props to Brian - no Jones no Stones indeed - but he's probably rolling with laughter in his grave at the thought of this.

Similar to Aberdeen, Washington where Kurt Cobain was born and raised.
A small town he despised, and where the feeling was mutual until years after his death, when they started trying to capitalize off of his fame with a museum and a host of other "markers"..

But where is it today? I would buy the bust and make available to see for the public.

Sounded like a nice idea. Maybe not. Fans are just looking for a connection, it's been so long.

Gustav Holst was born in Cheltenham and his birthplace is now a museum.

This must be fairly new as according to article posted here in this thread (Gustav), Gustav had no memorial. Neither does poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, physician Edward Jenner, actor Sir Ralph Richardson, and cricketing legend WG Grace, but maybe they all do now?

As for Gustav, maybe his fans caused a ruckus and had a petition drive demanding he be memorialized!!! I wonder of he has a walking history trail?

A blue plaque was installed at one of BJ former homes in Rosemead Cheltenham and I created a few designs for a BJ statue in Cheltenham, however a BJ bust was installed in a local shopping mall in Cheltenham in the end.

Holst is probably much more to Cheltenham's taste than Brian Jones!

And what a monstrosity it was!

Sissy Piana has sculpted a much better one.

Is it still impossible to make a statue, if the point is to be realistic, that would actually look like him, not like somebody else?sad smiley

A good portrait can be a recognition of the depicted - recognition of the artist - recognition of atmosphere, or character or event. To get a bust/statue in an open public space is a lot of work: "Getting people involved and the artist has to have recognition in the Arts, approval of the City council, and the finances: making of the Portret - pour into bronze, and pedestal.

I like some of Piana's Art and I studied Art myself but I'm not a sculptor.

Yes, His only real accomplishment was starting a band that that happened to have Mick Jagger and Keith Richards in it. Let's make a much bigger deal out of him then he really was just because he died young.

The Rolling Stones would have never been a band of worldwide relevance without Jagger and Richards. Jones and Stewart are just important for the early history. Jones became a fool in 1966 and wasn't able to do anything musically since as early as spring 1968.

Doesn't take away from the fact he was the founder, and if the band was never found, it would have never existed as we know it.

Without Jones, no Stones.

Keith and Mick would have still met, but who knows what they would have become.
Maybe playing local pubs, or maybe another Peter and Gordon, or maybe a semi-successful blues covers band, or maybe members of a huge rock and roll band.
Whatever the case, without Brian they wouldn't be the Rolling Stones.

They had probably founded an extremely successfull sort of Jones-less Rolling Stones with a different name, while Jones' band had never left Greater London. The good news is he probably had reached a higher age.
