99% going to one show only? That is not true but nevertheless, I do not see how you can defend such an unispiring set list. Its not just average fans who says that even the press and critics. They can do BETTER. And yes some warhorses need to be in there, but not Tumbling Dice and Miss You at every show. And they can do as with 19th vary them, play them diferently. After all they are musicians not clowns are they?

Looks like they are reading this board. Live With Me and Midnight Rambler are played in Albany. And no Tumbling Dice so far.

CORRECT !!!!!!

And if they won't play songs from their "Tour name" then at least pull some variety from their 1000-song catalogue !!!!

Tell me what 5 songs you want to take away from the Albany show and I will have the proof that your choice of songs are personal.

Gee...then a LOT of people on the 1978 tour must have been VERY bored at the time, because they played a MINIMUM of 7-8 songs from 'Some Girls' EVERY NIGHT !!!

Albany show:

1 .Start Me Up - played to death, warhorse
2. YGMR - no idea why Stones always play this - it must be easy for Keith & Ronnie - REPLACE (no warhorse and not the common fan would know this)
3 .Live with Me - played to death on Licks Tour - REPLACE (same as above)
4. Shattered - good choice
5 .Rough Justice - good new song
6 .Back of My Hand - average blues song but fresh and new
7 .YCAGWYW - yaawwwn, but a warhorse
8 .Midnight Rambler - superb
9 .Nighttime - cover - but why not do one of the band's early covers from the sixties??? REPLACE
10 The Worst - the worst of Keith's "solo" songs - REPLACE
11 Infamy - new song
12 Miss You - played to death on Licks Tour - REPLACE
13 On No Not You Again - good new song
14 Shes So Cold - FINALLY something that wasn't played to death on the Licks Tour
15 Honky Tonk Women - warhorse
16 Sympathy - warhorse
17 Paint It, Black - warhorse
18 Jumping Jack Flash - warhorse
19 IORR - warhorse
20 Satisfaction - warhorse
21 Brown Sugar - warhorse

That's 5 to replace BV. I guess Miss You could stay but maybe another one of the warhorses could go instead.

But that's my opinion. I just wish they could squeeze in a few more off the new album....is there a problem with them playing too long ??? For the ticket prices that is the least they could do.

In the same row as on the album?Yeah, why not!?That would be a laugh!
Sorry to correct you Retired dog but You got me rocking isn't the "youngest" song being played,Out of control is.

I think that we cannot blame them for playing the sames songs every night.
U2 and many others do the same.
We can blame them for not playing more new material.

I wouldn't call the setlist boring, although I'd prefer some smaller changes of songs. For instance I think Keith must definitely use a wider repertoire of tunes. On the Licks Tour Keith played 8 songs if I'm correct, he did

1.Thief In The Night
2.You Don't Have To Mean It
3.The Worst
4.The Nearness Of You
5.Thru And Thru
6.Happy
7.Before They Make Me Run
8.Slipping Away

Conclusion: The setlist, in order to be even greater, should need some smaller adjustments, especially when it comes to Keith and his songs.
If they'd also once in a while throw in Sway, Moonlight Mile and Sister Morphine to the setlist it'd be just perfect.

Who cares if U2 does it?They suck! This is THE BAND,no it's not just the band they're bigger than life! They shouldn't make compromises like that!

I do not understand why Keith plays The Worst every night.
This song is just average !
I bet that very few of us really love it.

They have until now played 37 songs in 13 shows.... not too bad.... they are changing songs from one show to the other.....

Of course I would like to hear from the new CD: Driving too fast, Look what the cat dragged in, It won't take long, Laugh.....

And Oldies like: Time waits for no one, Can't you hear me knocking, Under my Tumb, Let's spend the night together, Get Off my Cloud, Rip this joint; Let it Loose etc.....

Takes a bit effort for them to rehearse..... but that's what they get paid for....

I make it 35, myself, although I'm open to corrections

the biggest variety was between the club show in Toronto and opening night at Fenway. They did 28 different songs over those two shows, but have only added 7 since :

Bitch (23/8), Ruby Tuesday & All Down the Line (26/8), Paint it Black & Midnight Rambler (3/9), Rocks Off (6/9) and Waiting on a Friend (8/9)

I'm amazed they didnt try anything new in Chicago or New York. Changing the running order around a couple of times without adding new songs isnt THAt challenging, surely

"Gee...then a LOT of people on the 1978 tour must have been VERY bored at the time, because they played a MINIMUM of 7-8 songs from 'Some Girls' EVERY NIGHT "

And they got bored in 75-76, when they played songs from a forthcoming album, and what about 71, when they played too many songs from Sticky fingers, boy that must have sucked big time! Nobody liked that tour. They didn't change the set around then, but rocked 10 times harder, so now: please change the set, maybe some slower songs, smaller venues

Re: THE SET LIST IS GETTING BORING!!!!

I was at the Albany concert, and after Live With Me,Jagger said "we're going to do some rare songs tonight, some new ones, and some old ones."As it turned out,the only rare song they did was She's So Cold and it's not even that rare. The concert was good but, after Live With Me,it was mostly down hill for me because,I didn't see anything new or rare as they said they would play at the press conference and even during the d**n show.Everything would be fine if they would just add one song that they've never done before, preferably somewhere near the end of the concert to break up the snowball of warhorses to the end of the concert + one more rotating new song. They finally have given Tumbling Dice a break but, they should have replaced it with something more interesting than Shattered.I don't remember the riot that broke out because Tumbling dice was not played. They should rotate it with Honkey Tonk Women - playing one every show but never both.I don't expect them to drop all of the warhorses. The Albany show had just the right amount of warhorses for almost everybody.I would just take out You Got Me Rocking and replace it with 2 or 3 carefully chosen songs at certain places in the set.

Re: THE SET LIST IS GETTING BORING!!!!
Date: September 19, 2005 05:11

I would also add that it is pretty hard to call Paint It,Black a warhorse. It has only been played in the U.S. in '89,'99,& '05 since the sixties and Miss You was only played at around 35 out of 117 Licks Tour shows.I would alternate Miss You with If I Was A Dancer,Hot Stuff, maybe Too Much Blood, and definitely Rain Fall Down.

Re: THE SET LIST IS GETTING BORING!!!!

I have to correct myself.Miss You was played at only 18 out of 117 Licks Tour shows. The same as Red Rooster.I say play Rooster a few times.Something - anything. Why do they always wait until they leave the U.S. to play I Just Want To Make Love To You?

Bjornulf is right - reading the setlist is one thing and hearing and seeing it played is another. In an ideal world, I would also like to see various songs removed and others added to the setlist to suit my own personal preferences. I was not overly enthralled with the setlists and minimal changes - but now having had the experience of MSG, Giants and Albany, I have no gripes. Despite all the reviews, I didn't really believe that they could be surpassing themselves at this stage - but it could not be more true. I have seen other singers/bands live who were so disappointing that I can barely even listen to their albums any more - whereas these shows have only increased the magic that is the Stones. It's a hard task to keep all of the people happy all of the time - but when you actually hear these setlists played you realize that they are making a pretty damn good job of trying to do exactly that.

The trouble with Bjornulf's theory is that it suggests that apart from the usual hot rocks fodder, The Stones lesser known songs are irrelevant and Mr and Mrs 'Joe Public' can't relate to them. I would remind you that in 1969 at Hyde Park to an audience of about 500,000 people, The Stones played a set of mainly unheard and new songs, I think the folks went home quite happy - they didn't need to perform in a ridiculous steel cage either.....

Re: THE SET LIST IS GETTING BORING!!!!
Date: September 19, 2005 12:45

If they played 8-10 songs off of ABB every night, and kept the same setlist, I wouldn't complain (remember the 78 tour and Some Girls!). The point is: With a new album out, they should market it! I can't understand why they don't play it?

I believe the US market is a slow one.
More ABB:s in Europe.

That would be a nice surprise, since usually, the US gets the good stuff...

They barely play half of whats on Hot Rocks, many songs have never been played since the 60s or never at all..

Mothers Little Helper, AS Tears Go By would be great.

I think their problem is they keep the same songs year after year in the set. YGMR being a perfect example.

I went to a few shows already and I can say I was bummed out during about half of the Stones but songs like She's So Cold, the new ones and some others sort of saved the shows for me some what.

The definite set list for the next show:

1. Too rude
2. Sleep tonight
3. Wanna hold you
4. Coming down again
5. Slipping away
6. You don't have to mean it
7. All about you
8. Indian girl [Mick doing some vocals cause Keith needs a break]
9. Back to zero [Mick]
10. Losing my touch
11. Infamy

... at this point the show will end cause the audience starts smashing the seats like in the ole dayz -- even though Keith wanted to play "This place is empty" for an encore
