This is better than the Shine A Light version. This would be a good addition to the next tour.

From the Veterans Stadium show. Great concert: one of the shows from a recent tour I really love to listen to. Def one that's worthy of release.

Thank you for posting. I didn't know this version and it is much better than the versions from 89 and 06 I know...

Slow.............. I've never heard a great version of this wonderful song live. To do it right takes a lot of vigor, as it's a relentless song.

Charlie also played a two-handed 16th note rhythm on the hi hat on the original...that gave the song a lot of drive and an exotic feel.

Never saw this one.

Always good when they play "an obscure" song. Just like Dancing With Mr. D. on the last Tour.

thumbs up

I have a hard time with "live" songs where to much recorded bits and click tracks are involved. I think this started with the 89/90-tour.

The quality isn't the absolute best but it's still pretty good.

I saw them three times on this tour. Once was at Giants Stadium in New Jersey.

This live version of Undercover is bloody marvelous!

Funkier ... a little different.. but cool and pulled off so well.

Great vid!

Keeping with Undercover, what do you all think the definitive live version of She Was Hot is?

Cause it wasn't filmed by some random dude in the audience with his Sony Handycam.

The Rolling Stones paid people to shoot it. Pros. But it got ripped off, copied to some analog format, traded around, copied many more times, and the quality of the video posted on YouTube is what you get.

Not to downplay Charlie's role, but the studio track also has other people on percussion:
Simmons (electronic) drums: Sly Dunbar
Percussion (incl. timpani, bongos): Charlie Watts & Sly Dunbar (and possibly Martin Ditcham, Moustapha Cisse & Brahms Coundoul)

Because the filming is in professional quality. The umpteenth generation tape is not, though...

The electronic drums definitely add drive to the song, but Charlie's funky beat has more movement to it with additional notes being played on the hi hat.

I also preferred Sympathy live when he played it that way in '89 up through the Licks tour I think.

Oakland 2006 or Atlantic City 2006 are probably the two best. Maybe Los Angeles '06 is not far behind.

The "Shine a Light" film / CD version is not the best one but,it's not the worst one either.

They picked a good concert to bring it out for the first time on a cold Chicago night.

Obscure????

A top ten song in the charts which received good exposure on MTV along with publicity and a song which appears on multiple hits compilations.

"Too Tough" is more of a better example of an "obscure" song.

There's also the Detroit 2002 live version of "Undercover of the Night" to consider .... as well as Washington D.C. 1994.

I agree though .... that this one should be performed more often.

The 1989 Atlantic City (the version without overdubs!)-version is the best one they ever did, imo.

Took the passage of time to realize how great the show was.

I meant obscure during LIVE shows ofcourse, not played many times.
"Too Tough" is a song never played live.

Great version.

On another observation, the time that video was shot, 2002, the amount of time that has gone by is roughly the same as from their first album to Some Girls.

Holy moly!
