Such a sudden and sad loss, prayers for his family and friends.

It's very eye opening and scary that this could happen to a man like Tom with so many resources at his disposal. He wasn't overweight and was obviously cleared by physicians for extensive touring, and yet he's gone suddenly at a relatively young age.

Life is so tenuous...don't take tomorrows for granted.

Happens more than most realize...cardiologist once told me that a major symptom of heart problems is often times sudden death. The heart is a mysterious and fragile thing.

Peter Wolf, who opened on several dates this tour, just phoned in the satellite station as said he observed Petty in a lot of pain this tour. I guess he needs hip surgery but was putting it off.

Sad news. It was a Tom Petty "Guitar Player"interview in 1978 that taught me the secret to K.R's 5 string Open G tuning.Thank you Mr.Petty.

Just saw him in Boston this past July w/ Peter Wolf--- he was awesome--- the Heartbreakers were soooo tight !

Sorry to see him go-- got the Willburys on right now

RIP brother

I was thinking - 3/4 of the Wilbury's are now gone. And who would have thought Dylan would be the last one standing. This has been an unbearable year for the music industry, and we still have 3 months to go...

Otis Wilbury (Jeff Lynne) and Lucky Wilbury (Dylan) are still with us.

Previous misinformation aside, so is Charlie T. Wilbury, Jr.

Pretty much all news organizations seem to be saying that the reports of his death were erroneous. (Death may be imminent but has yet to take place.)

I don't know why when certain people (who I do not know personally) passing away crushes me so much, but Tom Petty dying hurts me bad sad smiley

RIP TOM PETTY,
Thank you so much for your great music,
through which you will live forever!

I didn't think he looked well this past Spring in New Orleans at Jazzfest. Some of these guys and their crews push it too hard when it's time to take a break. Everyone remembers how the Grateful Dead kept slogging away, when it was painfully obvious Jerry Garcia's health was fragile.

Glad to have seen Mr. Petty a handful of times and enjoyed his tunes.

RIP

Bugga. Breakdown was the first Tom I heard. Still vividly recall the "feeling" I got from it. It literally stopped me in my tracks. I HAD to listen to, and absorb it. A truly outstanding song. Simple yet powerful. An intro to me to a remarkable talent and stupendous band.

I have had a long, yet far too short, journey down Tom's highway.

Only had the chance to see them once, as Bob Dylan's backing band!, as Tom, despite offers from Australian promoters, just would not ever come back.

Of all the musical related deaths over recent years, THIS one has hit me by far the most. Absolute devastation. Now playing Wildflower. A superb record.

RIP mate and sincere condolences to your family, circle of friends and of course, to those post and present Heartbreakers.

A great loss! I wish strength to all those who need it in an hour like this.
And let the music live on!

Just as long as the guitar plays, let it steal your heart away

One of the greatest songwriters of the last 50 years. Tom made 7 or 8 classic albums of those at least 3 are masterpieces. He carried the spirit of rock'n'roll forward from his hero Elvis right through the 60s and bands like the Stones, Beatles, Byrds, Animals, Zombies through new wave when he arrived right through to today. He was a legend and legends never die. Tom you will remain in our hearts forever. RIP incredible musician.
