I was with Syrel in Buffalo 2 years ago to see the Stones. He had to collect his ticket at an office behind the Box Office. Tom Petty was there collecting his too. He was chill, so were we. Then saw him in Toronto in July. This one has me shaking. And not in a good way. RIP Tom, the future is wide open.

very sad.
For those of us who grew up in the '70s, he was one of our rock heroes.
He had some drug issues he couldn't quite kick, hope it was nothing like that.

I was still a teen when I saw him for the first time, just after the second album was released. Probably the closest I will ever get to the atmosphere of an early Stones concert - small arena, loud, fast paced rock'roll, raucous crowd rushing the stage, security escorting them off.

Still one of my top 5 concert experiences - the buzz lasted for weeks.

Horrible news, on a horrible news day.

Saw him very much in his prime, at the Omni here in Atlanta, in 1983.

RIP Tom, and thanks for the music and the good times.

LAPD can not confirm: [www.cbsnews.com]

It does sound like the inevitable though.

This is an incredible loss. Wife and I timed our vacation to New York Ciy in July to catch Tom & Peter Wolf at Forest Hills. One of the best nights of our 33 year marriage.

God bless Tom. Prayers for him and his family.

Room at the Top

Reports are that he has not passed. Whether or not let's hope and pray for Tom, he has a "Room at the Top".

Seems everyone is going back on the reports but still say he's clinging to life and its basically inevitable. I have to go to sleep now but hoping I wake up to the miracle that he pulled through, but it seems unlikely that will happen.

"I wanna leave this, world for awhile. I wanna Free Fall out into nothing..."

If this is it, its incredibly sad and unexpected. Far too soon. Same age as his friend Garry Shandling. You better be damn sure I'll be blasting Runnin Down A Dream on the way to work at 2AM though, alive or not. One in a million musician.

I saw him with Mudcrutch here in central Florida at small bars before he moved to LA and formed The Heartbreakers, R.I.P. Tom Petty!

Oh such terrible news! I just heard on the radio that he had a heart attack. Then
looked here and saw the grim prognosis. My thoughts are with his family and bandmates. Sooo sad....

Absolutely gobsmacked and heartbroken. Tom Petty has meant more to me than just about any rock and roller outside of the Rolling Stones. This is so sad, I just want to cry.

Terrible, terrible news. I simply can't believe this after seeing such a vibrant Tom Petty at Hyde Park in July.

Many news sources are saying that he's not actually dead yet and "clinging to life," though not expected to last the night.

Tom Petty and The Rolling Stones are the only bands I saw play live in four different states. Great songwriter and performer.

He was a very nice person and a great artist.

If he doesn't make it, may he R.I.P.

He will be leaving a wonderful legacy of music.
