Its all over tv in the states. Big country music festival, Jason Aldean was performing. Outdoors on a temporary site (about where they are going to build new stadium) across the strip from Mandalay Bay. Evidently the shooter was shooting from floor 32 of the hotel. Automatic weapon reloaded several times. Developing story.

A sad reminder of why security at gigs is much tighter and why revealing the location of well-known people (like the band's hotel) is risky.

The shooter in Las Vegas was firing from a room only 3 or 4 floors below the Stones' (and their team's) hotel rooms last year...

Did you ever wake up to find
A day that broke up your mind
Destroyed your notion of circular time

It's just that demon life has got you in its sway
It's just that demon life has got you in its sway

Ain't flinging tears out on the dusty ground
For all my friends out on the burial ground
Can't stand the feeling getting so brought down

It's just that demon life has got me in its sway
It's just that demon life has got me in its sway

There must be ways to find out
Love is the way they say is really strutting out

So sad again, gone too soon.

cnn:

"The shooter had a significant advantage due to his elevated
position, James Gagliano, retired FBI supervisory special agent,
told CNN. And with 30,000 people packed into a small area, "he
just had to point at the center ... and squeeze the trigger," he added.

Watching footage of the shooting, he said that the gun sounded
like a military belt-fed weapon. The pauses in between bouts of
shooting suggest that the gunman was either changing the magazines

or trying to barricade himself into the room to prevent police from
entering, he said."

And a law for gun control is not necessary?

thumbs up I visit Vegas twice a year usually. I'm heading down in a few weeks for some (indoor) shows & Exhibitionism. Was going to stay at Mandalay but it was sold out. Watching the footage, seeing places I've walked many times. It looks like the police did as good a job as they could given the circumstances. The venue was temporary, in what was essentially a giant parking lot. I think it is where they are going to build the new football stadium.

Tragic.
No doubt the NRA will come up with some other absurd argument in favour of gun proliferation though.

Holy shit.

Well...just another day in America. Can't wait to see how the White House occupant responds.

The gunman used an automatic weapon. A machine gun. They've been totally illegal in the US since 1934.

So sad and senseless.

As the NRA and Congress try to loosen gun laws (again) in our country by making gun silencers more easily available. Enough.
The mass shooting was (as usual) carried out by a (white) domestic terrorist.

As usual? Not in Europe. Besides there's no proof of terrorism at all.

I thought Stump was going to end "American carnage"...or is he gonna try to claim this is technically still on the black guy's watch?

We're discussing the US.
If this isn't terrorism, nothing is.

I'm so sorry for all of this. Another act of terrorism. I hope it will stop one day. Don't know when. I'm not in a very positive mood today, but I still believe love, sympathy and empathy are the only way to move forward.

It's not terrorism and it's not "Trump's fault." Although this is all still early, I read that the shooter had a lawsuit with a casino a few years ago. So for example if he went nuts because he lost a lawsuit then it's not terrorism. It's mass murder.

If we play with the meanings of words to suit own own political agendas that helps no one.

So sad. We stayed at Mandalay Bay last year for the Rolling Stones concert and I remember viewing the tranquility of the open field across Las Vegas Blvd from our room and now it is a scene of a horrific and tragic event.

Horrible. Again. This resonates with me, as it must for many of us on our way to various gigs. Condolences to the victims and their loved ones. Jim Jeffries, the Aussie comic, does a very good bit on gun control, and how they handled things down under after 1 mass shooting. It’s on YouTube for anyone who would like some food for thought.

This is not terrorism. If he has an agenda, left or rightwing or the typical dominating one it is terrorism.

We tried love and empathy last year and got punched in the face as a result. America is a spiteful, vindictive, small-minded country full of narcissists. I'll be damned if I know what the solution is.
